Rory McIlroy didn't lift much except for a few pints back in Northern Ireland last week when he took a trip home to Holywood to show off the green jacket he earned for winning the Masters the week before.
He didn't have to. McIlroy maintained his huge lead on the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup points list, with Justin Thomas picking up 700 for winning the Tour's Signature event, the RBC Heritage, and moving into second.
McIlroy leads Thomas by 764 points and with Thomas not playing in this week's Zurich Classic, McIlroy will increase his lead just by making the cut with teammate Shane Lowry. It could be a lot more: they're the defending champions and are the only team in the field at TPC Louisiana in which both players are among the top 15 in the world (McIlroy is second, Lowry is 13th).
Not possible. The players on the winning team get 400 FedEx Cup points each and the highest-ranked player in the field is Sepp Straka (playing with Brice Garnett) at fifth. If Straka and Garnett win, Straka can move into second place behind McIlroy, at best.
Only one other top 10 player in this week's point list is in the Zurich Classic, field, No. 9 Collin Morikawa, who's playing with Kurt Kitiyama. The highest Morikawa can climb with a victory is third.
(Through RBC Heritage and Corales Puntacana Championship)
Mackenzie Hughes, 52 spots (93rd to 41st), tie for third
Chris Kirk, 20 spots (132nd to 112th), tie for 18th
J.T. Poston, 17 spots (70th to 53rd), tie for 11th
Andrew Novak, 17 spots (32nd to 15th), second
Si Woo Kim, 16 spots (60th to 44th), tie for eighth
