As is the custom of the Augusta National Golf Club, players in the Masters Tournament will not know the purse until well into the weekend.
When the Masters begins on Thursday, they'll be playing for more than cold cash. History and their legacy in golf will mean more than money.

But none of the top players will be disappointed when the direct deposit from the club clears next week. Last year's purse was $20 million, with $3.6 million going to winner Scottie Scheffler. That was second among major championships last year in both regards. The U.S. Open paid $21.5 million ($4.3 million to the winner), the PGA was $18.5 million ($3.3 million) and the British Open $17 million ($3.1 million).
Only two players among the top 30 on the Tour money list did not qualify for the Masters, No. 25 Andrew Novak and No. 28 Jacob Bridgeman. The Masters also has 40 of the top-50 earners in the field.
Eleven of the top-30 money leaders on the LIV Golf League are in the Masters, led by No. 1 Joquin Niemann ($8,604,905). LIV also has five of its top-10 earners in the Masters field, with No. 2 Sergio Garcia, No. 5, Jon Rahm, No. 9 Brooks Koepka and No. 10 Charl Schwartzel playing.
