Late Friday, the commissioner's office announced it will open a new Western office in the Phoenix area to ``provide special attention to and coordination between the office of the commissioner and the major league clubs in the Mountain and Pacific time zones.''

Laurel Prieb, the Brewers' vice president of corporate affairs and the husband of Selig-Prieb, was hired to run the office.

Bug Sellout has a home out here - which does make you wonder why he's so frigging hostile to the DBacks.

Can he really hire his son-in-law to run it? Isn't that the most blatant nepotism!?

LOL - actually, Joe SENIOR is the nepotism - Jr. was the guy who recruited Colangelo to baseball - which explains why he's so teflon, perhaps. And Bryan - well, Dad OWNED the team, so he could do what he wanted.

But Selig doesn't OWN mlb, however much he tends to forget that - he's hired to run it as an independent Commissioner.

I can't help but think old commissioners like Kennesaw Mountain Landis or Giammatti, or Ueberroth would grasp the potential problems appointing a relative to a management job. Hell, Landis would probably ban Selig for doing this!

I see A LOT of golfing in the future for the MLB Bigwigs. Everytime I see an interview after a players' meeting the ESPN crew always seems to find those in "the know" at a golf course.
