What do you guys think of trading Boris Diaw for Ron Artest in a sign-and-trade? Considering how well Boris played in the postseason, I don't see why Sacramento wouldn't be interested in him. And we'd do this because it gives us one of the best perimeter defenders in the league as well as another three-point shooter.

And since we all know how badly we need a backup point guard, what would you say about trading Leandro Barbosa and a TPE for Kirk Hinrich?

If we make these two trades, resign Gordan Giricek and Brian Skinner, and try to draft a center in this year's draft (Thabeet, perhaps?), this is what this team would look like next year:

PG: Steve Nash/Kirk Hinrich/D.J. Strawberry
SG: Raja Bell/Gordan Giricek
SF: Ron Artest/Grant Hill/Alando Tucker
PF: Amare Stoudemire/Brian Skinner
C: Shaquille O'Neal/Hasheem Thabeet

I'm not sure who the 13th player would be, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to sign Allan Houston for the veterans minimum.

This is really just a pipe dream, though, but it certainly is something to consider. Of course with Robert Sarver being as cheap as he is, he would never do this.

can allan houston still play?
I'm not sure. I remember him stopping by here not too long ago, though, and asking our medical staff to examine him and see if they can do anything that would allow him to play again (or at least for another year). And knowing them, they probably wouldn't have a single problem working with him and trying to get him back in shape in order for that to be a possibility.

And I also don't think it's possible for you to package a TPE with a player.

Would Jose Calderon mind being the back-up?

WTF is with this Allan Houston crap. Seriously? The guy who got cut from the KNICKS after one game?

And Thabeet is staying in school another year.

Stop thinking.

Hinrich will not play back-up.

As I have stated many times here before, it's high time that Nash got relegated to a lesser role. He needs to be our 6th man next year. He can be a combo guard off the bench. He has been figured out or he has slowed down to the point where he is less effective as a starter anymore. At any rate, I do these trades and I would be ecstatic going into next year. I would draft a 3-4 combo, though.

Hinrich
Artest
#15
Stoudemire
O'Neal

Nash-Hill-Bell-Giricek-Skinner-Strawberry-Tucker

That's a legit 10-man rotation....

NO NO NO.

the TEAM itself has slowed down to a point where Nash himself has become less effective because of it. less spreading the floor, less running, less everything means less of everything from Nash. we no longer have the ball rotation we once did. we no longer have guys running around getting themselves open for shots. the dynamics of the team are COMPLETELY different than they were just a year ago, and it has affected this team ALOT.

and where can you even support your statement about Nash? seriously....are you talking about the SA series? you must. because Nash average MORE points, and a half an assist less than his first year with the suns after being resigned.

now, to get back to these trades:

trading Diaw for Artest based on exactly 2 good games from Diaw is just stupid. any GM who even considers a trade like that for more than two seconds needs to be fired.

Diaw showed not a whole lot this entire season. Artest, while a nutjob, is still 10x the player Diaw is....not because of talent, but because of consistancy and overall motivation.

Haren, reverse your thought for a second. Based on his performance in the playoffs, is Diaw now worth his contract? Shouldnt we WANT to hold onto a player of his talent? NO.

and the Barbosa of Hinrich trade isnt even possible. players and TE cannot be packaged together to take on a player with a greater contract.

There's a problem with your analysis. You can't trade a player along with a TPE. Therefore that trade can't be accomplished the way you have proposed it. Secondly....NO thank you.

You can do it as two separate transactions. TPE+2nd rounder for Hinrich, then they use the TPE+ a second rounder for barbosa.

no you cant. Hinrich is on the books for $10mil next season. our biggest TPE is Kurt Thomas', and it is a shade over $8mil i believe. you cant use the 125% rule when using a TPE, so in order for it to be used on a guy like Hinrich, he could only be making $8mil or so.
