Well, it's halftime and nobody has started a game thread yet. It must be a bad night. The Suns are shooting the ball extremely well so far. In fact that might be their best shooting for an entire half of basketball this season. They shot 56.5% from the field.

Your ego again. Let's see if they can keep it going.

Well, all I can say is that this is pure and utter domination by one Stephon Marbury.

That's for damn sure. The man is on fire, in the zone, or whatever the hell you want to call it. More please...

He realy is one of the few players in the NBA that can take over a game. I just wish he could do it a little more consistantly.

OK. Admit it. How many of you yelled, "noooo," when Marbury took that 30 ft. shot? I know I did. Of course it quickly turned to "yes!" when it went in. :)

In 34 minutes Marbury has
38 points (15-22)
4 rebounds
9 assists
1 TO
4 steals

Looking at the score you would think this is the 92-93 Phoenix Suns. I love the way they are running at every opportunity.

I thought NO at first on that 30 footer untill I noticed 02 on the shot clock with the ball in the air.

Very nice effort tonight. Clippers are making thier run here in the 4th. The Suns need to hang on to the double digit lead. They need to keep doing what they have been the entire game and that should happen.

Harvey's stat line was not necessarily impressive tonight, but his contribution to this team should not be overlooked. He isn't as active as Bo Outlaw in the fullcourt press. He does have a lot more offense though. What did they give up for him? I believe it ended up being Robert Archibald and next year's second round with a future second-round pick coming back from Orlando. I only wish they would have been allowed to make the trade sooner. They honestly might have a couple more W's.

Enough cannot be said about Marbury's performance tonight. He was just spectacular. Hardaway also had a nice game, and JJ was doing well until the fourth quarter when he couldn't make anything.

Zarko Cabarkapa is supposed to be back January 9, and Amare Stoudemire is set to return January 15.

I'm telling you guys - if this team can just keep playing .500 ball until Zarko and Amare come back - there is still a realistic shot at the 8 seed - this team is going to be VERY good next year - and the rest of this year is gonna be fun because every game is gonna seem like a playoff game as we desperately try to get back into the playoffs.

Very nice game by the Suns tonight.

Harvey has been a great addition to a depleated roster. I like his toughness and rebounding. He does not have an outside game to speak of but he has shown some decent moves around the basket. I keep thinking also, this guy is only 23. He could continue to improve if he is interested in working on his game.

The team is playing much better and they actually have a winning streak (two games LOL). They really showed some consistancy tonight. I was looking for them to hold the 10+ point lead and not make us sweat. The final was 8 points but I think it was mission accomplished. I think this is the first complete road game I can remember this season.

They are giving us some reason for hope. A consistant effort and execution are all that I have been waiting for this season.

The first two months have been brutal, I just hope thay have turned the corner a little. They finished the year strong now they have to continue the growth and improvement because they still have a chance at the postseason.

GO SUNS!

This was the first time the Suns played four quarters since the Dallas game. It's too bad this game was not on a national broadcast because I think Marbury would be lock for the all star team if it had. Also this may have been Hardaway's best game of the seaon

Harvey was huge. He really made Brand work for his points and actually showed some potential in the low post. He shot 4 of 7 from the floor, but barely missed on a couple.

About the only sour notes were getting killed on the boards, some really dumb passes in the paint, and too many dumb fouls.
The Suns still show no evidence of knowing how to block out. If anything, they are inclined to all jump for the ball and knock it out of each other's hands. Giving up 20 offensive rebounds could have been fatal.

The in the paint passing is still a struggle for the Suns. In a couple of cases they clearly over passed into turnovers. Also, they don't seem to understand that it is never a good idea to make a bounce pass in the paint. Ugh.

What on earth was Voskuhl doing fouling a guy well out beyond the three point area? Some of the foul calls were bogus such as the one where Harvey was called when in front of Brand, but some were simply unnecessary. Except for Marion, it makes no sense to challenge layups because the Suns get called every time.

None the less, it was a good way to end the year.

Excellent points. :raccoon:

I gave them a pass on the rebounding tonight. The Clippers are a good rebounding team. I think EJ said during the broadcast they are 3rd or 4th in rebounds and offensive rebounds.

Some of the fouls were dumb on the Suns part and some of them were phantom and bogus. Gotta earn that respect from the refs I guess.

If the playoffs started today Houston would have the eighth-seed with a 53.3% winning percentage. In other words if every Western Conference team kept winning at the same clip it would take a 44-38 record to get into the playoffs.

The Suns are currently 12-20, so they would need to go 32-18 the rest of the way to make the playoffs. Amare Stoudemire is set to return January 15. The Suns have 6 games until then. If they play .500 (3-3) until January 15 they will have to go 29-15 the rest of the way.

Of course all of that is assuming teams like Utah and Denver won't collapse, and good teams like Houston, Seattle, and Portland won't surge.

Even though the Suns have not fared well on the road so far this season their next four games against the Eastern conference are all winnable.

Anything's possible, but I'm not holding my breath for the playoffs. The Suns have dug themselves quite a hole, and it's going to take an incredible effort the rest of the way to have a shot at the playoffs.

well thanks to utah power i missed the 3rd game in a roll. dang it i cant even hear it on radio :( but it is great see a lot of good posts on this board for a change. even when the team has won there has been a lot of posts that are still blasting the team. as yuma stated the suns are still not out of the playoff picture and amare and zarko will be back here shortly and then watch out this team will start rolling :D

Marbury can take over a game but he has to pick his spots a little.

Much like KJ is is often at the mercy of the refs to call fouls when he goes to the basket. Steph is getting beaten up so far this year and doesn't get enough trips to the line.

As for the playoffs, you never know. Just like we had injuries they could bite a team in front of us or one of the young teams like Denver could collapse. They just need to keep working hard and see what happens. There is time if they can get it going and get a little help.

About the only sour notes were getting killed on the boards, some really dumb passes in the paint, and too many dumb fouls.

And the continuing inability to get good shots against a zone defense.

The Clippers used the zone only sparingly last night, and when they did, Marbury "broke" it by bombing 30-footers. That's great if it works, but I think we all know that Marbury is not a consistent threat from that distance. I won't have any optimism for this Suns team until they win a game in which the opponent plays a lot of zone and the Suns consistently get (and make) good shots against it.

In my opinion the struggle with the zone is still the Suns' biggest problem, although the refusal to move without the ball (which is related) or box out (which isn't) are right up there too.

This game actually started getting me optimistic about the rest of the season. Then I realized we beat the Sixers without AI or Aaron McKie and then the Clips. Still the team has played much better since Mike D. has taken over and they might have figured out how to hold onto a lead. They almost played a complete game against the Clippers and that's a good sign (4th qtr they got a little complacent and were outscored 23 to 27).

This was the 1st game that I was impressed with Harvey. I thought he played well defensively against Brand and he also had a few nice shots in the paint over Brand. I don't know how much time he'll get when Zarko and Amare are back though.

There was 1 very positive thing that I saw in last night's game and that was Shawn Marion cutting to the basket as other players penetrated the defense. He got at least 3 layups from doing this and probably could've gotten more with the way the defense was trying to pay attention to Marbury.

penny...

how did he look last night? i saw the stat line and he had great stats and it looked like he played well in the fourth. how did he look on defense and movement wise? that always seems to be the issue. he's a smart player and he can get points based on his basketball smarts rather his physical abilities(or lack of).

he seems to be doing well as a role player, and even somewhat consistent, but all i ever hear is that he's slow and plays bad defense. then he has a decent game like last night and there's no comments about him being slow. what's the deal? is he showing flashes, or just hitting shots? it's hard to be "slow" and score 18 isn't it? just wondering, becuase i haven't seen him play much this year.

I didn't even realize that Penny's statline was so good. I was concentrating too much on watching Stephon Marbury rip apart the Clips' defense.

Penny had a quiet 18 pts last night. It seemed like he really didn't play much. I guess his defense wasn't too bad because I don't remember yelling about him (except on his one turnover in the paint when he should have taken the layup himself). I'm glad he hit his shots while he was in the game though.

I'm not sure that Penny was playing very good defense, but then neither did the rest of the Suns outside guys. Penny's spot up jumpers were beautiful.

Obviously if Stephon played like that every night, the Suns would be in the playoffs. There is no way a zone would have helped to stop him and his ability to pass out of the double team made a big difference. Penny was wide open and made great use of it.

JJ's game was frustrating. He played very well early and then stopped attacking the basket in the fourth quarter. I think he gets tired. He played 35 minutes on Sunday and 36 on Monday. I suspect that when he gets tired he tends to regress to settling for contested jumpers.

I suspect that will drop once Amare and Zarko come back. Zarko will pick up most of the backup minutes at SF that JJ is getting now. If Penny and Casey combine for 18 to 24 minutes at SG, this would drop JJ to 24 to 30 minutes a game.
