Phoenix looks at free-agent center Mihm

LAS VEGAS - The Suns held a just-in-case workout Tuesday with Chris Mihm.

Phoenix and Memphis took a look at the 7-foot free-agent center. Mihm's skill set could be a nice fit, but Phoenix likely would sign Mihm only if it traded Kurt Thomas (and his $8.1 million salary) or if Mihm were willing to play for the veterans' minimum.

Mihm, who turns 28 next week, missed last season because of ankle surgery. Mihm started 131 games for the Lakers in the previous two seasons, averaging 10.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in that time. Mihm's agent reportedly asked the Lakers for the $5,356,000 mid-level exception. Chicago also is interested in Mihm.

The Suns face a projected $8 million luxury tax, which would be the NBA's second highest. A new signee's salary is doubled in cost to Phoenix.
Why are we bothering? Unless we can sit him down with grant hill to convince him how cool it is to sign for the minimum... Who would be potential suitors for KT anyway?

I feel like Mihm asked for the midlevel from the Lakers as "It would take this much money for it to be worth it for me to play on that screwed up team again."

He would be well worth the minimum. But he's not more valuable than KT.

As free agency moves forward, KT might be a nice possibility for a team that is under the cap and loses out on a player they were targeting. Since he is an expiring deal, there is little real risk.

However, moving KT and signing Mihm would do nothing to advance our title hopes.
