Abington Heights’ Jason Casper had two races, and Derek Williams competed in one at the PIAA Class 3A Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday morning.
Casper hit the pool in the 200-yard freestyle, an event he won at the District 2-4 Class 3A Subregional Championships. He finished in a time of 1 minute, 45.28 seconds to finish 27th. His time was better than his district-winning effort of 1:45.68.
In the 100 butterfly, Casper had a time of 51.61, again, better than his time of 51.70 from the subregional championships. Williamsport’s Kellen Griswold, who edged Casper at the subregional meet, finished 21st with a time of 51.52.
Last season, Casper finished 32nd in the 200 free and the 100 fly at the state championships.
Williams, the District 2-4 subregional champion in the 50 free, clocked in 21.84 to finish 27th overall. His effort was an improvement over his 30th-place finish with a time of 22.36 from last season.
On Saturday, Abington Heights sophomore Micah White competes in the Class 3A diving championships with his district-winning score of 455.75. He enters as the No. 7 seed. Teammate Ryan Horutz is seeded eighth for the event with his second-place score of 454.35.
In the girls meet, Hazleton Area freshman Lia Ochs finished 30th in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:14.48.
Hazleton Area sophomore Lorelei Lucas finished 31st in the 100 fly with a time of 1:03.73.
