This is just a curious note, but I wonder how the Cardinals decide on a head coach? Do they use recommendations from other owners? Is it the coaching staff the person will bring or the salary they will command. I just wonder how you get "on the list." Since we obviously have failed in this endeavor so many times maybe the Cardinals should re-evaluate the process they have used in the past.

Conjecture on my part - I'm assuming this organization is not far enough along in sophistication to delegate entirely to the GM (in this case Graves).

So what probably would happen (and probably has in the past) is Mr. B (and possibly one or more of his sons and others they trust) "ask around", keeping the circle of people they seek advice from as small as possible - relying solely on those they feel they can trust.

After that, it probably becomes a function of family members (and probably the GM and close trusted associates like Guilfoyle sitting down periodically to develop (and then pare down a short list) and then discreetly bring in candidates for the job.

If they're interested in contacting candidates who are currently employed in the NFL, they have to wait until the season is over for any team. (I suspect that if it's a college coach, they have to respect NCAA tampering guidelines as well).

This can slow them up considerably, and also put the team in a position of "having to compete" with other disgruntled teams for head coaching talent. (Several years back, Mike Holmgren was rumored to be on the Cardinals' short list, but he opted for a cushier job for Wolf at Green Bay and is now doing well at Seattle). So imagine if we ended up in a pissing contest with the Giants (who are rumored to be disatisfied with Fassell) for the opportunity to sign Stoops or Mularkey.

Final point - Despite Jim Fassel's struggles this year (mainly due to Accorsi's failure to rebolster his team's offensive line), I'd hire him in a heartbeat if he became available. He's been here. He has Mac's intensity, but also is a bright offensive mind who understands QB's and isn't afraid to pull the trigger on decisions earlier rather than later.

Fassell might be excited about the chance to work with a guy like Manning. Unless of course we wimp out and take another defensive lineman...

Section and others - You're doing it again. You've set your sights for more than a year on one player (out of 300) that we've absolutely got to have, and there are fifteen ways to Sunday that something can happen so that we won't get Eli Manning.

You are setting yourselves up for probable major disappointment.

(i.e. He's got to be there when we draft him. The Cardinal scouting department has to agree with your assessment as to who's the top QB in the draft. The Cardinals have to decide to forego finding a good FA veteran QB instead of spending the top pick on Manning. The Cardinals have to decide they want to use their top pick on a QB. Manning has to stay healthy throughout the rest of this season. Among other things.)

Knowing the deductive reasoning shown by Our Beloved Cardinals Front Office, it wouldn't surprise me to to see Kevin Loughery or Stan Albeck on the short list...

"What? What do you mean - they're BASKETBALL coaches???"

NO NOT FASSEL!

Definately not Fassel.

He is a shorter version of McGinnis.

Dennis Green ain't the answer either.

Lovie what's his name is a good one.

Maurice Carthon is a really good one.

BTW - the coaches gotta go too.

Sullivan, Marime, Joe Greene (forgive me football Gods), all of them.

Once again, Graves is mad as heck and thank goodness he is.

Then we get Roethlisberger. I'm happy with either one.
