It appears Pietrus will pick up his $5.3M player option next season with the Suns. As the Suns already having wings in Dudley, Childress and Pietrus under contract, I do not see this as a positive development because the Suns also plan to re-sign Grant Hill. See article from Paul Coro dated 4-12-11 at azcentral. IMO, Pietrus never quite fit well with the Suns.

Swingman Mickael Pietrus plans on making a return for the Suns. It just won't be Wednesday night.

Pietrus will end the season by missing a 12th consecutive game with a quadriceps-tendon strain near his right knee. Despite a diminished role before the injury, Pietrus said he wants to return to the Suns next season. He has a $5.3 million player option.

"I like it here," Pietrus said. "It was just different for me. I had to adjust during a short period of time. I'd never been traded. Training camp will help so the coaches can get to know me as a player, and I can get to know my teammates. It's not easy to get to know a player when you're chasing the eighth (playoff) spot. Next season, I'll have time to be part of the family."

More 24 foot turn around fadeways in the future for the Suns??? He would be a decent trade chip next season as an expiring though.

Is $5.3m not a fair value for Pietrus? I mean, he averaged 7.4 in just 18 mpg. This is a team crowded with 3's and he played efficiently with the time he got. He's expiring and he has a decent deal. I would think that he's a PRIME trade piece. Some team would do well to get him - either for bench productivity or for the expiring money....

Instead of injuring his knee, I wish he hurt his hand instead.

Then he would be a little easy on the pulling the trigger everytime he touches the ball.

Pietrus was obviously going to pick up the option. I much rather have Childress getting those minutes though. Pietrus' shot selection is horrendous. He is also very streaky. I hope the Suns find a way to trade him. If not, Gentry needs to stop giving him the green light all the time or stop playing him.

I really thought he was going to be a great fit for us. I didn't really remember him being such a free wheeler in Golden State and I was expecting lockdown defense from him. He disappointed in both areas but I'm hoping it was just a case of him not really fitting in. We're in trouble next year no matter what but it would help if he actually had some value either on the court or in the trade market.

i too was disappointed in his defense. it just had too much freedom here, chucking up shots.

A lot of folks were (relatively) excited when he was coming to the Suns. Granted it probably had a lot to do with Hedo being part of the package going the other way--but aGM who might have liked to land him this year probably won't treat his performance with the Suns as a complete deal breaker.

Buy low, sell high

It makes no sense to trade Childress before he raises his value again which means playing time.
Pietrus is tradeable simply because he is an expiring contract.

Chili is a player that could be useful as role player... but IMHO not for his current salary...
