The only reason we picked this guy was because we dont have to pay him for year...... man I really hate this pick.

Yeah, I was wondering about him playing in high school one more year. The one thing this guy has is SIZE! If he makes it up to the big club, he will be a monster on the ice. Most of these guys are reaches because of all the years in the minors before seeing big club ice time, IMHO. I am kinda surprised they passed on some of the goalies taken so far.

even he said that he didn't expect to be pick until the second round. if we really liked him so much we could have used a couple of our second round picks and traded up into the late first round.

They admitted they were looking to trade down, one of the announcers said. Maybe they couldn't find a partner to trade down with. This kid was probably their first option, but with the goalies on the board at number 7, I would have taken one of them, and at least you have a trade piece further down the road. If they weren't prepared to pick at 7, then this was horrible. If they really think this guy is a first rounder and didn't think he'd make it to 31, I can understand it if they just HAD to have this kid. Like I said earlier, size alone gives him a good shot to make it.

I find it hilarious that the ESPN guys were mocking us for making this pick. They were holding back their laughter. Oh well, I guess we are trying to get alot more top 5 picks in the future.

they keep saying that the coyotes scouts have a great reputation for finding talent....so i'll trust they know what there doing. this just reminds me of when the diamondbacks surprised everyone and took casey myers with the #3 pick, and so far he's been a bust.

Aren't the Coyotes somewhat in a position to draft someone for development? They need to finally add some more veteran players to the mix, however, that obviously wont happen until the CBA is resolved...Also, how about finally hiring a new coach?

Anyways, the Coyotes are deep with younger talent, and I cant wait to see Comrie and Morris being in a Coyotes uniform for an entire season, a healthy Mike Johnson, Tanabe returning (since it seemed that he was their catalyst before he went down), Sjostrom and Nagy can only continue to improve.... Also..Keith Ballard could factor in a lot this season......

I like their foundation and very excited that they signed Doan to that long-term deal, however, they obviously need another scoring presence besides him and Nagy.......

I agree though that goaltending is a major concern.....Johnson/Boucher may form a decent tandem, but Im afraid that they're adequate enough to lead the team into the play-offs...Just cant wait for the CBA to be solved soon.. since I believe that the Coyotes will be in a "buying mode" during Free Agency....

I think a blizzard in Phoenix on the 4th of July is more likely than either one of those occuring.

Can I only dream? And no...not about a blizzard happening here on
July 4th! :D

Seriously though....I hope Barnett and Co. realize that they must sign at least 1 or 2 "upper-tier" FAs to effectively attract more fans into Glendale Arena.... Unless that the Tony Amonte fiasco still might prevent that from happening....

Obviously, this is moot since I do agree that the CBA wont be solved any time soon, so it's inevitable that the '04-'05 wont happen whatsoever...

No matter what Wheeler does is moot. The fact is they took a guy 5th who was ranked around 30 on everyone's board. They could have easily traded down, picked Wheller, plus another pick. Our "management" is a joke.

Yes, they are they lucked out for a very long time blaming everyone else though. Namely...a lot of players who took other teams to the playoffs!
