There is working the refs and there is antagonizing them. Chris Paul antagonizes and LeBron works em. He chums them up all game long, nods at them whenever they make a call his way, especially when it's a terrible call, and acts like it's the end of the world when they make a crucial call against him... but he also doesn't insult them, he just acts like the biggest drama queen in the world.

Paul on the other hand needles them, waves his hand at them, rolls his eyes, when he gets a call in his favor he is more likely to mock the player called for the foul than praise the ref for the call.

Booker, unfortunately, is more like Paul, and he's been that way his entire career (he didn't learn it from Paul sadly, but the behavior is similar).

Working the refs, charming the refs, it's a skill, and one of the few skills that Booker lacks.

I'm not saying that Booker's ejection was justified, but I do think Booker needs to get a LOT better at dealing with the refs and keeping his cool when things are not going his way.
What LeBron does is more egregious and just shows how thin, skinned and incompetent the refs are.

They play favorites, and that’s been an issue with the NBA as long as I have been watching

Sophie on commentary is great. Glad she's sort of drowns out Annie.
Anne is ultra dry, boring, and if the game is on TNT or ESPN I watch on the other channel. Anne needs to be put out to pasture or moved to Mercury games only, and if Eddie isn't on the call let Sophie be the other announcer.

Don't hate Anne,,,just dislike listening to boredom.
Beth Mowins would be an excellent replacement as well. VV

Dude it was 5 MINITES INTO THE GAME. The refs would have us believe that he was "warned" multiple times but the video evidence was there. That call was horsecrap.
Yeah, that was too quick a hook and B.S. However, I will say last year my wife and I had floor seats for a game. Booker runs his mouth A TON. LOL. I mean the entire game and during time outs. Often complains a ton to the refs during TV timeouts. I am actually shocked he doesn't get more "T"s. Most of it is trash talking but you don't get a sense with how often he does it on TV. My brother in law had won floor seats from work and told me it was exactly the same at the game he went to as well. He loves to run his mouth but thankfully mostly backs it up. It's mostly not disrespectful but just more of the whining variety to refs which is why I was shocked when he was booted.

Refs that early and in that situation shouldn't make themselves bigger than the game. I feel bad for all the people that paid hard earned money to see him.

After the game Durant said that on his 2nd T that got him tossed, Book was actually talking to him, not the refs.

If that had taken place on the court, he would have been ejected and likely suspended. Because it was in the tunnel he is arrested?

It was assault, plain and simple. What do you think should have been done?
I think it should have been handled by the NBA. I think things get really really messy when you start crossing those lines between internal and legal. I mean every single fight in the NBA then could result in arrests. Think about all the bench clearing brawls.

What do you think the justification should be? Of course the NBA will handle it in whatever way they see fit, as they do with off-court instances. Are you saying that the fact that it was in the arena means that law enforcement shouldn't have been involved? It's not the NBA's arena, after all.

Yes. Exactly what I am saying. If it occurs during an NBA event, it's a league matter unless it's something extreme. Can you imagine if all the bench clearing brawls all end up with players getting charged? What a mess that would be.

It didn't happen during an NBA event. If it was in the game or even during the pregame warmups I would agree, but it happened prior to all of that.

It wasn't during an NBA event. It's like you going to work and outside the front door you are assaulted by a paralegal. Should the company be the only ones that handle it?

Once you enter the arena it's an NBA event IMO. Outside a building on the street isn't the same thing. We will have to agree to disagree. There are not laws I am aware of that set parameters where or when something like that occurs which determines if you get charged. It's subjective at best. The lines here can get really grey really quick and make a mess.

I mean, for that matter, what is wrong with the authorities getting involved for things that happen in game even? Assault is assault in the end and I don't see how it being during an NBA event should remove all repercussions to the offender. I mean if someone snapped another players neck on purpose during a game would he not get charged for murder/attempted murder?

The problem is laws vary from state to state. Again, I said unless it's something extreme. The way it is now? It's very subjective.

Understand your point of view, but I still struggle that an arena's owners would rely on the governing body of a sports league in matters such as this. What if this happened during a WNBA game? Or a concert? Who is responsible then?

Failing to involve law enforcement for something like this is the real mess IMO. It would look like a coverup to protect the league and it could open the door to more behavior like this. This is nowhere near the first time cops have been called in for a physical attack involving players, whether on the court or the ice or the field or elsewhere on the grounds. It may well turn out that Eubanks was as much to fault as Stewart but that will come out in their investigation.

That's why it's also a mess. Does law enforcement then get involved in every bench brawl, NBA fight, NFL fight on the field too? That's what I mean. It's so subjective. I am all for every situation being treated the same. Not subjective application depending on when or where it takes place by players participating in a league game.

What id like to know is what Monty meant when he said there was more to the story

Eubanks said there was only minor prior basketball smoke but Monty hinted like it was deeper

You would think but why don't most on court or field punches result in charges?
Probably because the players involved see it as something that happened in the heat of battle when emotions are high, during the game. Again this happened off the court like an hour before the game in the back tunnels. I would imagine that even for things that happen in game the assaulted player would be well within his right to seek legal justice as well.

There have been multiple examples of teams in tunnels getting into with each other. I think it needs to be all issues should be reviewed by law enforcement or none (meaning league handles). It shouldn't be subjective.

On-court or on-field is irrrelevant in this case. If the incident is bad enough, I don't think where it occurs, the victim could press charges if they wanted to. But I'm guessing there are specific rules for on-court incidents vs anywhere else. And in the arena is still just "anywhere else".
