PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers returned home on Wednesday to play host to the Washington Wizards looking to get back in the win column. The Sixers entered the contest on a 5-game losing skid and were looking to get something to feel good about on the basketball court.

Once again, the Sixers were short-handed as they were missing a laundry list of players while the Wizards were also missing a slew of players. Both teams are having a miserable season as the Sixers have been hit with injuries while Washington is rebuilding, but it was the Wizards who emerged with a 119-114 win to send Philadelphia to its sixth straight loss.

The Sixers received 22 points from Quentin Grimes, 21 points and eight rebounds from Guerschon Yabusele, and Justin Edwards had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jeff Dowtin Jr. added nine while Jared Butler added 15, six rebounds, and four assists off the bench. Ricky Council IV had 14 and six rebounds.

Here are the player grades following the loss:

Jeff Dowtin Jr.: B-minus

Once again, Dowtin provided some much-needed scoring in this one. He knocked down an early triple and was able to get into the paint quite a bit against this porous Wizards defense. He also made sure the Sixers were in the right spots on the offensive end and got everybody organized with what they want to run. He doesn’t have much time left on his two-way deal, but Dowtin has been real solid during his time on the floor.

Quentin Grimes: B

Grimes had a tough time getting going in this one. He remained aggressive despite the struggles which is what the Sixers will take from him at all times. He did step on a fan’s foot after knocking down a 3 in the opening quarter, but was able to shake that off. He eventually found his rhythm as the game wore on which kept the scoreboard moving for Philadelphia. It wasn’t his best night shooting the ball, but Grimes had some good moments in this one.

Justin Edwards: A-minus

One has to like the progress Edwards has made as a rookie. He did some good things in this one off the dribble and continues to show an ability to get to his spots and dictate to the defense where he wants to go and how he wants to conduct offense. He wasn’t able to get going much from 3, but he did a terrific job of getting into the paint and finishing over taller defenders. There were some tough moments defensively because of his left ankle issue, but he had a nice night overall. These are going to be important reps for him down the stretch of this season.

Ricky Council IV: C-minus

Needing a strong finish to the season, Council had some good moments in this one. He was active on the defensive end, but had a miserable time on offense. He struggled shooting the ball overall and was unable to cash in on his open 3s. He had a highlight play in the third when he threw down a lob which shows off his tantalizing athleticism and potential, but he just needs to find some consistency in order to stick in this league.

Guerschon Yabusele: B-plus

Yabusele came out firing to start the night as he showed a little life in his legs on the offensive end of the floor. He knocked down a couple of early 3s and was aggressive off the dribble. He had issues defending Wizards rookie Alex Sarr who used his quickness and length to get some easy buckets, but Yabusele was able to respond offensively. Either way, he looked like he was moving well in this one and did some good things on offense and on the glass. The Sixers have asked a lot of Yabusele in this season, but he has done a good job of handling all of it well.

Jared Butler: B-plus

Facing his former Wizards tram must’ve served as motivation for Butler. He hopped off the bench and was aggressive with his offense. He knocked down an early triple and then did a great job of taking defenders off the dribble and getting into the paint leading to some easy looks for him and teammates. He knocked down some more triples in the second half as he looks to improve in that area of his game.

Adem Bona: B-minus

The rookie big man hopped off the bench and immediately brought a ton of energy, but again, was hamstrung by foul issues and too much excitement. He had a quick foul trying to defend Sarr and then had a goaltend while going for a block. He did, however, have some impressive dunks on the offensive end and was helpful on the glass.

Marcus Bagley: C-minus

Getting some action in his second NBA game, Bagley had a tough time getting anything going on the offensive end. He deserves credit for being active defensively and making things happen on that end of the floor and showing off the athleticism he possesses.

Phillip Wheeler: C-minus

Making his Sixers and NBA debut after signing a 10-day deal earlier on Wednesday, Wheeler got a quick bucket off a layup in transition. He was unable to get going much going in terms of his 3-point shooting, but he was able to get some NBA minutes so that’s always a good thing.
