This falls in line with overthinking , but how far down do you reach for a player you think is your guy.

Let’s say the Cards player rankings has Young,Simmons, Brown and Wirfs as their top 4 players but they are gone.

How far down the national rankings do you go to get your guy? So Kinlaw is our 5th rated player but nationally he is ranked 16th. Easy. Trade down, right? But nobody is stepping up. There’s no trade partner.

Your two options are to entice a team to trade with you by settling for less in trade value or simply take your guy.

However, if your guy is there do you just take him knowing the rest of the boards may not rank the player as high as we do? Maybe it’s not Kinlaw. Maybe it’s Henderson or Murray. I’m sure no two draft boards are alike. Do you worry what the pundits may say?

You can't worry about the pundits. They are almost always very wrong. I saw a guy bragging that he got 9 of 32 picks right today last year.

You can only go off your own board - if there is a big gap between 8 and the 15th ranked player on your board than you adjust the trade compensation accordingly.

Moving down for minimal compensation is a recipe for disaster. You either maximize the value for your premium draft slot or you take the best player that can help your team. imo

I agree. If there is a player that you rank highly , to hell with the pundits. If you trade down you really don’t know what the 2,3 or 4 teams behind you are thinking and you could miss out.
But rest assured, if you take a player at 8 that most pundits have ranked 20 , you will be roasted.

If you don't have a trade partner you always go with your draft board. No emotion in it. It is pre determined.
That said someone ranked 16 is pretty unlikely to be ranked so high on your db when your pick is up.

1- Young
2-Okudah
3-Simmons
4- Brown
5- Wills-Wirfs
6- Wirfs-Wills
7-Lamb
8- Thomas, Jeudy, Becton, Kinlaw, Chaisson, Henderson.

Now it's pretty sure at least 2 QB's are chosen so that automatically pushes two down from the top 7. If three are chosen....
