One thing is certain. There are plenty of players out there at our positions of need. I don't think anybody we pick up will come here and start week 1, but certainly can be added for depth.
I see us picking up an OT and 1 or 2 LB's. There will be no logical excuse not to make some waiver moves.

Should we have any interest in TE Zach Hilton? (He was cut by the Niners).

Correction on Will Demps. He was placed on IR by Giants & not cut.

Also - GB has cut S Marques Manual (orginally dangledfor a trade), TE Clark Harris and WR David Clowney.

Lions released WR Ronald Bellamy.

Dallas released QB Richard Bartels (possible Todd Haley connection?)

Clowney would be a good pickup.....nobody else though is worth much
Bartel was a rookie this season, so no Todd connection

why, are you expecting immediate starters? because of course you'd be disappointed

Who said anything about starters?

Looking for at least a good project of which I dont see anything at all. Dont even see a decent backup at positions of need especially at OT. Crappy list so far. Anyone that does look semi OK we dont need what so ever.

I think many of us are focusing on two separate tracks: (1) that guys we cut but like clear waivers and make it to the PS and (2) we find 2 or 3 guys who are legitimately better than guys still on our active roster and who have a legitimate shot at replacing them as better quality backup depth or (as in the case of TE's) possibly becoming a starter.

There also may be things flying below the radar on the FA and trade front with the goal of adding 2 or 3 quality backups/possible starters.

Example (applied to another team): Simeon Rice is deciding whether to become a Bronco or Ram. (He's supposedly leaning Denver but with him- who knows?) If it's the Rams, he presents a problem to a division rival like us because we could no longer double team Leonard Little on the opposite side without giving Simeon a one on one shot at our QB. Conceivably at TE, LB or OT, there could be trade or FA opportunities for us of a similar nature.

NO cut Petitti who started 16 games for the Cowboys in 2005 and Dallas Also cut Aaron Glenn who could be a very big upgrade over Rolle as a nickle back..can't see any others worth picking up

Glenn is 5-9 and 35 years old. He is an OLD 35 having played for 14 seasons. He is done. The grass is not always greener in this case. He also got beaten pretty badly on the long ball while playing his nickel role the last 2 years in Dallas.

Petitti was dropped by Dallas becuase he gave up 14 sacks. 8 penalties, and was a liability in the run game. He was only active for 1 game all of last year and will be on his 3rd team in 3 years. I would rather stick with Badger.

Terrance Pennington RT out of Buffalo. 2nd year player, started 9 games last year with one penalty and 2 sacks allowed. Buffalo ran better to the right side then they did to Gandys left side last year I believe. He is so far the only guy that looks intriguing to me. Good project for Grimm and they probablyh already have tape of him after looking at Gandys tape in the offseason.

Good call on T Pennington, Joe.

The other two high on my radar:

CB Evan Oglesby (Ravens)...good nickel corner.

TE Marcellus Rivers (Patriots)...had a great game Thursday night...good athlete, natural pass catcher.

Add 2 more to my interest list (that fit where I think we need depth or projects for next year) -

TE Courtney Anderson - Young big 270 lb TE
DE Mkristo Bruce - Rookie liked him coming out of college and would rather give him a shot rather then Tafoya or Bailey, could possibly play some OLB in rush situations. Good project to have rather then Bailey or Tafoya who will never see the field anyways. Heck give Ross K an injury settlement and bring in a project instead.
