So, assuming that we are a 3 or 4 seed, is it assured that we will play on Saturday instead of Sunday? I would think they would want to give field crew time to change over for the Fiesta Bowl on Monday.

The reason I ask is that I apparently RSVP'd to an event I can't get out of on the evening of Sat. the 3rd and now I am scrambling to figure out if our game is conflicting with it (I already bought tix to the game too).

Any insight would be helpful. I see the NFC teams play at 10 AM (4th seed) and 2:30 PM (3rd seed) that weekend, but the day is not specified.

I hate my life right now. I think I will find myself rooting for the Cards to be the 4th seed so I can go to the game in the morning and the event that night.

That feels just plain wrong..

Look at that schedule more closely and remember that NBC gets the Saturday games. The NFC game on NBC involves the 6th and 3rd seeds at 2:30 PM. Being the optimist I am, this is the game I expect the Cardinals to be playing in which is convenient since I really wouldn't want them to play in the game that starts at 10:15 local time on Sunday.

Okay, I get it now. If we are #3, we play on Saturday at 2:30 local time and if we are #4, we play on Sunday at 10:15 local time.

We are tied with the Vikings, but they hold a tie-breaker at this point that would be rendered meaningless after our head-to-head matchup on Sunday.

So basically whoever wins on Sunday has a 75%-ish chance of being the #3 seed. The only scenario to change that would be if the Winner went on to lose the last 2 games of the season and the Loser went on to sweep their remaining two contests.

I like our chances of winning at least one of our last 2 and the Vikings still have ATL and NYG, so if we win on Sunday, it should make the #3 seed almost a lock...and then I don't get to go to the playoff game.

FWIW, when Seattle was winning the West, usually as a four seed, their game would be on Sat.

I don't think that the #3 vs #6 matchups on Saturday are set in stone, but more of a placeholder. It will depend on which teams fill those slots and how the networks negotiate the games they want. Last year, the Saturday games featured #3 Seattle vs #6 Washington in the NFC and #4 Pittsburgh vs #5 Jacksonville in the AFC.

Also, the NFL is not going to make a western team play at 10 in the morning. Our game will not start before 1 PM. They are more likely to have an afternoon game and then a primetime night game on Saturday, like last year.

I don't think there is any way that the we could hold a playoff game (with all of the cards stuff everywhere) on Sunday then the Fiesta Bowl the next night. There is so much that goes into the Fiesta Bowl retro-fit that I think it would be next to impossible.

The NFL will realize this and put us on Saturday. And it will probably be the early game that day to give them as much time as possible.

I would bet it would be the 2:30 p.m. time slot. 10:00 am would be too early and is a slot designated for an East coast team.

I think the NFL kind of has a floating schedule that depends on the teams in. They won't have the Cards playing early on either day. Plus,I don't think the NFL cares one bit about the Fiesta Bowl. They are going to do what's best for them to get the highest ratings.

I think if the Cards end up playing Dallas, Washington or Philly, they would get the prime time slot on Saturday...If they end up playing an NFC South team, they would get the early Saturday game.

FWIW, If Atlanta wins out and Carolina either loses out or beats Denver and then loses to the Giants and NO, Atlanta will win the division. If that happens and we win out we could get the 2 seed due to strength of victory. If you count both Atlanta and our next 3 games as wins we would be tied in strength of victory currently. We will automatically be tied in conference record and common opponent win % if this scenario happens as well. Also we are currently 2 wins behind in strength of schedule so if our strength of victory ends up a tie we have a shot to overcome that as well. Hopefully SF wins out, and Stl and Seattle steal a win or to somewhere. So it all depends on what the teams we beat do.

The NFL playoff schedule used to have times specified for the Wildcard weekend. Now the times have been removed. I think the NFL will set the schedule when they see the teams that are playing.

The Cards game will be in the afternoon (2:30) or evening. What I am saying is that they won't play on one of the early 10:30 am MST times.

Can anyone make any clarity out of this?
