Please clarify: Why The Brewers?

Im so confused, why are we playing the Brewers?


I thought it was: come in 2nd to the Brewers and we play Philly in Philly. Had we overtook the Brewers we would play the Braves at home.

Didnt the Brewers end with a better record, therefore we have to play Philly?



Not a hardcore baseball fan, so im unaware.

No - the #1 seed plays the Wild Card, unless they are in their own division. that is why we could have played the Phillies - if the Braves were the WC team.

But since the Cards are the Wild Card, they play the Phillies.

Here are the seeds:

#1 Phillies - #4 Cardinals
#2 Brewers - #3 D-Backs.

The only way this seeding gets jumbled is if #1 and #4 are in the same division.
