and neither Q nor Fitz in the top 10:

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nate Clements ranks the NFL's 10 best receivers, based on personal experience. Clements has played in 112 consecutive games to begin his career, earning a Pro Bowl berth after the 2004 season.

Profile

2007 Season Stats Tot Solo Ast FF Sack Int
92 77 15 3 1 4

1. Marvin Harrison, Indianapolis Colts

Clements: "I think the way he runs routes separates him, and he has excellent hands. He is a sure-handed catcher. He has the speed. The numbers don't lie."

2. Randy Moss, New England Patriots

Clements: "He's been real consistent throughout his career."

3. Chad Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals

Clements: "Chad is very quick. He can catch the ball. He has good size. He runs good routes and he can go up and go get the ball."

4. Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers

Clements: "I like Hines Ward. He's not the biggest, he's not the fastest. Some guys are just blessed with the size and athletic ability. He just goes out there and he is just a hard-nosed receiver. Because of the style he plays, he does not get the credit as a receiver. He is totally opposite of what you think a receiver would be."

5. Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboys

Clements: "People may not like his personality, but when it comes time to play, he puts up the numbers. You can't argue against that. He definitely has the size. He is a big, strong receiver."

6. Chris Chambers, San Diego Chargers

Clements: "There are so many players in this league who get overlooked because they've been on losing teams. I feel he is definitely one of those guys. When he was in Miami, he was definitely their No. 1 receiver. We saw what he is capable of doing when he goes to a winning team. His pace doesn't stop. It picks up."

7. Andre Johnson, Houston Texans

Clements: "He's a workhorse, he's a physical specimen and, unfortunately, he's been on a team that hasn't been winning too many games, so he has been one of those guys who has been overlooked as well. You put him on any other team that is winning and he'll definitely be recognized. He is definitely a stout receiver."

8. Torry Holt, St. Louis Rams

Clements: "When I think of him, I think of a track meet, a guy who can just run all day. He has excellent hands and runs good routes."

9. Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers

Clements: "He's explosive. He is a game-breaker."

10. Roy Williams, Detroit Lions

Clements: "He definitely has the size and the speed, good hands. It's just that he's been on a losing team as well. He is definitely a good, quality receiver."

Breaking them down
Nate Clements breaks down today's receivers across four categories.

Best hands: Torry Holt, Marvin Harrison and Hines Ward.

Fastest: Randy Moss, Roy Williams and Andre Johnson.

Best blockers: Hines Ward and Anquan Boldin.

Best route runners: Harrison, Holt.

Quote to note: "I've seen Marvin run a route I had never seen in my life. He ran a post, corner and post. Antoine Winfield stayed disciplined and stayed inside and ended up getting an interception on it." -- Clements

He used to be on the Bills. Thus all the AFC WR, and Chambers who he used to meet up with twice a year.

And that somehow makes Chambers better? Puh-lease.

I could name 25 receivers better than Chris Chambers. You want the over or under on that abomb? :)

In his defense, it is his "favorite" not "the best".

As he becomes more familiar with Messieurs Boldin and Fitzgerald, they will be on the list. ;)

to be honest -- i couldnt care less about rankings like this --

I did find it a little curious that he left both from the Cards, and that he will have to face both twice a year for the next several years.

Base on his own criteria of "San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nate Clements ranks the NFL's 10 best receivers, based on personal experience". That bolded part is the key part of why guys made or didnt make his list.

If he hasnt played against you one on one then I dont think you will be on his list. Using that criteria I can see why Boldin is not on his list considering he only faced him twice last year and Boldin was average the first game at 4 catches 22 yards and 1 TD and was playing injured the 2nd game. Fitz didnt do well in their first meeting either but he tore it up the second meeting so who knows why he is off the list.

Then why put Holt? Or put Boldin on his best blockers list?

Scouts, Inc. has a Top 64 WRs list. The link is available on that page (it's free).

6. Larry Fitzgerald - There are always debates over who is the Cardinals' No. 1 receiver. We feel that player is Fitzgerald in large part because his counterpart, Anquan Boldin, has been unable to consistently get open. Fitzgerald does not have big-time speed, but he has great hands and knows how to use his size (6-3, 226) to separate from a defender.

11. Anquan Boldin - If Owens is the most physical receiver in the game, Boldin is second. He runs defenders over with the ball in his hands. He makes up for his lack of speed by bullying smaller defensive backs to create separation. He plays with a ton of passion, something we love. Teammate Larry Fitzgerald, however, has surpassed him as the best receiver on the team.

You have to remember that Clements doesn't get to see Q and Fitz very often......just the back of their jersies!
