I think this is another Adrian Wilson. Sometimes it takes 4 years for the light to go on. The guy has beastly size and we could carry him on the roster for one more year. Plus I hear he has been hitting the weight room like never before.

Actually scratch that he is over weight

...or so in cap space after structuring safety Adrian Wilson's contract to consume about $9.5 million in space this season. --NT Alan Branch, a second-round pick in 2007, has been a huge disappointment. He's been overweight and coaches were hoping he would commit...

I thought I read somewhwere on here that he was working his tail off this offseason ?? Oh well must have been someone else ..

I still can not believe that Alan Branch 1 month before that draft was going top 10 and maybe even top 5

Arington got a lot of slack even though he was a "disappointment" for the first two years of his career.

But, this coaching staff does not seem inclined to mess around. I voted yessssssss, although it will be close. We're thin on the d-line.

Does this guy not understand how much money he could make even as a decent rotational player? That he could have a nice little career and make some serious cheese if he would just work hard?

He doesn't. Last year we heard the same thing. Lack of effort and over weight. He would be a monster and might even turn it on after leaving the Cards ?? At 340-350 he needs to drop 20-30Lb's with that nice 6-5 frame

I see six roster spots on a three man front. Campbell, Watson, Dockett are my starters Robinson, Iwebema, Branch and Dykes compete for three more. There is always a chance an extra body could be kept. I'll put the odds at 3-1 in favor of Branch making the 53 man roster.

I would not let Branch be my door man. He would show up late, out of dress code, you get my meaning...He is a waste of space ala wendell bryant.

I believe I have read on other threads that Branch costs too much to cut.

You have a door man?
And for Wendell, it only took about a decade for the lightbulb!

this is a tough one. I voted that he's cut.Overweight and lazy seems to be the fastest way to get cut in the Ken Whisenhunt/John Lott scheme of things. I hope the light goes on but what a waste of talent he's been.

There's just too much talent to give up too quick. We need to remember that he came out as a junior so I think they'll give him this year to fix his flickering switch. Does anyone know a good electrician?

"Edison" stays...totally agree can't give up on him yet...when he is on...as infrequently as that has been, he is dynamite...he will have plenty of opportunity so let's just see.

I don't like the poll options. The light doesn't go on, but the FO isn't ready to give up on him yet either, due to lack at the position.

I don't think he gets cut, but I don't think the lightbulb comes on yet.

Cutting Branch is at least a $1,325,000 cap hit.

He stays - IMO

5 things to look at.

1. He did in fact show up to workouts much lighter then he did the last year. But he also showed up last year pushing 400 so he still could have showed up much lighter at 370 but still 20 pounds away from what the coaches wanted him at.

2. Dykes plays DE not NT so he has no barring on Branch in terms of position.

3. We have always kept 7 DL under Wiz. DE - Dockett, Campbell, Iwebema, Dykes are pretty much locks for the DE spots, and Watson and Robinson are pretty much locks for the NT spots. Leaving one spot open. Leslie was about to start selling shelving systems door to door before we gave him a call, he has done and shown even less then Branch has in his career.

4. Cards still think he has a lot of potential or they wouldnt have given a 750k roster bonus this offseason. Guys who are given 750k roster bonuses just dont get cut for the simple fact of cap implications and wasting 750k.

5. The nuts and bolts of the matter is that we dont even have the cap space to cut him. If we cut him know we would be saving his base salary of 460k but we would still be paying the 1.25 mill in bonus money he is making this year plus the 500k in prorated signing bonus he is still owed for the 2010 season, plus the cost of the player to replace him on the 53 man roster.

I need a third option. I dont think the lightbulb goes on I just think he is the best of the bunch for the last and final 7th DL spot and wont be cut because of cap purposes.
