With almost a full year in to evaluate this team, Outside of QB, what is the position most in need to address this off season, in your opinion?

LB. Inside and outside.

1) Pass rushing OLB
2) Offensive tackle
3) Strongside Inside Linebacker

I think we will fail to address #2 in this draft because we'll have to see what we have in Levi Brown before a big roster bonus is due March 2012, and Brandon Keith showed enough development over the course of the year that he can compete for that job (if this coaching staff is legitimately interested in competition--Jeremy Bridges should've been clearly ahead of Keith at the beginning of the year, but for some reason he was on the left side).

I would've added tight end, because I think that whomever we hire as an OC is going to come in and wonder why we have three warm bodies on the roster at TE and no one who can start in the NFL.

And I say this as Jim Dray's earliest and #1 fan. I want to get a Jim Dray #81 jersey and have fans at UPS wonder if that's my last name on a Boldin jersey.

pass rusher,....rather it be olb or de....most likely an olb
after that,...an ot,...then a WR,...I know lots of you will scoff at the WR,...but our stable is not as strong now as we thought it would be. We need a young guy to groom for 2012 and beyond and now is the time to get him. I would much prefer a speed guy for a change. Breaston is pretty fast, but I would love to have a guy who just blows past the DB's if they are closer than 15 yards from the los.

OLB, OT, OG in that order

OLB is pretty obvious as our aging linebackers have made little impact in getting pressure on the QB, which exposes the secondary a bit. That's why I didnt list a CB or Safety. I think we're fine in that department (even though I thought it was our biggest weakness last season)

OT. Levi Brown. Enough said. It's time to replace him. He is not going to get any better than he is right now and since contract escalators are about to hit, time to cut the fat before he goes from overpaid to egregiously overpaid, unless somehow he can play guard (doubt it).

OG. Faneca and/or Lutui will be gone next season and our interior line needs improvement anyway. Right now, all we have is Rex Hadnot if the aforementioned are gone. It's a shame Hermann Johnson is no longer here as I thought hed be a good fit.

passrusher ala OLB then OT. If we don't go QB first round then I want to see us get the top player at their position.Even the top CB or WR. Whichever player is most likely to be a probowler lets take him. Hopefully it will be a passrushing OLB. I am still wanting to trade up and get Andrew Luck, but if that doesn't happen then BPA.

It's really hard to pick between OT or OLB as a more pressing need. We are really hurting at both positions.

DT based upon a percieved need to change to a 4/3. We cant fill all the holes in our LB corps and add a pass rusher in the 3/4 and as our NT position is still up in the air. Better to use young LB prospects behind a D big line.
THere is enough talent in the D line rotation to make it work.

If we're going to make a change to a 4-3, our DT's are set. We'd need to add a pass rushing DE or two and add the LB's for the 4-3.

As it stands right now, we are much better suited to stay at a base 3-4. Our NT position is pretty much set with Dan Williams getting most of the reps there now. O'brien Schofield has been getting more and more playing time and has looked good at OLB. Daryl Washington is presumed to be the starter at WILB and has looked ok. We will still need to address the SILB and other OLB spot in my opinion, but filling 2 spots for the 3-4 is easier than filling 4 if we're going to go to the 4-3.

Why are we excluding QB? Is it understood that it is our greatest need? Please don't tell me we have already anointed Skelton as QBOF.

If we include QB, it will get 100% of the vote. Hardly grounds for discussion.

So you would put Dockett back inside with Williams and draft a DE. Interesting. If a good one is there. You'd have to choose between the DE or QB first though. We will get a high second, so that would help.

In that case you need a thumper at MLB though. Depends on personell available. Turns out collecting pass rushing/every down OLB's is slightly easier said then done.

I'm for drafting based on production and leadership on the field...not so much the measurables. Football PLAYERS. If an outstanding, superior talent lands in our laps, so be it. Adjust.

Presuming Dockett moves inside and Washington outside , all's you need is the get after it DE and a MLB.

W. Davis also showed some good flashes this season.

Everyone aknowledges that position needs to be addressed.

For the purpose of this thread, there are many other holes on this team that need to be addressed. I'm trying to come up with a consensis of how the board views those needs.

Also when we pick in the draft, it's likely that one of those needs falls into our draft slot, and the decision on whether to go that route, with a better player than a possible QBoF reach, which could further hurt this teams chances going forward.

Look at the teams that trade back into the 1st round for their young QB or pass all together on their 1st pick, like the Jets did the year they passed on Leinart, with an obvious need there.

They chose to build the OL, and they have a very good one.

That's kind of condradictory.

Even with pressure there was very poor coverage going on, plenty.
Assuming that a better pass rush will solve all the problems back there...

Solid coverage also leads to sacks.
