It could be very cool, or very unfortunate if those beings happened to be aggressive, lol. Like you said, most likely nothing, but I'm reminded of a Porno for Pyro lyric, "maybe martians could do better than we've done. We'll make great pets!"

If that was the case we might as well be ants. I am sure this is nothing but we should probably just play observer and not try and put out the welcome mat. LOL.

That's the hope for sure. I think the fear is that if planets that have the right ingredients to sustain life are at a premium in the universe, that wouldn't be a good thing. That would likely raise the possibility of aliens looking to conquer and colonize those existing planets.

Hawking thinks it's a possibility..."If so, it makes sense for them to exploit each new planet for material to build more spaceships so they could move on. Who knows what the limits would be?" and "We don't know much about aliens, but we know about humans. If you look at history, contact between humans and less intelligent organisms have often been disastrous from their point of view, and encounters between civilizations with advanced versus primitive technologies have gone badly for the less advanced. A civilization reading one of our messages could be billions of years ahead of us. If so, they will be vastly more powerful, and may not see us as any more valuable than we see bacteria."

That prospect is pretty terrifying in itself. Although, I would hope that they would be just as advanced in societal behaviors. Again, I think this is just "noise" but you would think with our primitive technology they would also have found us by now using similar techniques.

Agreed, if they are advanced, they should be finding us before we find them rather easily.

Disregard the signal, earth.humans. We are seeking contact with the intelligent species of your planet, but Carl hit "Reply All" instead of responding only to the earth.cetaceans list. Apologies. Best regards to your Mr. Belvedere.

Hopefully Kardashev class 1 and class 2 civilizations are less annoying than the Kardashians.

I thank you not for bringing up the K word. I would like to go at least one day without turning on the TV or reading a magazine / news and seeing something about that family. It's getting to be regoddamndiculous!:pullhair:

Speaking of class 2, I don't see how type 2 civilizations are possible. A planet with the ability to absorb all of the energy of a star and use it for their needs. Nope, not buying it.

My Dad always said that if advanced life ever reached Earth, they would most likely just sit back and observe us for a while before they made contact, in which case they will probably put a Giant sign up around Jupiter that says; DONT GO TO THAT PLANET, THOSE PEOPLE ARE PSYCHOTIC SAVAGES WHO KILL EACHOTHER FOR RIDICULOUS REASONS. COME BACK IN 100+ YEARS AND REASSESS.
