Well I got bored today and started thinking about what the D'backs line up will look like now that we know for sure Adam Dunn won't be here. So here's my guess/hope:

1. 2B Lopez (S)
2. SS Drew (L)
3. LF Jackson (R)
4. 3B Reynolds (R)
5. 1B Tracy (L)
6. CF Young (R)
7. RF Upton (R)
8. Snyder
9. Pitcher

The 6 and 7 slots are probably somewhat interchangeable, but I figure since Youngs been in the bigs a bit longer he may have a higher chance of having a good season this year. The 5 spot may be a bit high for Tracy, depending on his health, but his left handed bat is needed. Hopefully he can hit for average and be steady.

I think the rotation is pretty obvious:
Webb (R)
Haren (R)
Davis (L)
Garland (R)
Scherzer (R)

Anyhow, your thoughts?

I've shared this thought before. I believe that Justin Upton has the potential to be another Ken Griffey, Jr.

So, even without Adam Dunn here to bat cleanup, I'd like to see Upton batting third. Every game.

The two most disciplined hitters on the team are Drew and Jackson. Even though they are not traditional 1-2 hitters, they can help make the rest of the team better at the top, just as Craig Counsell did when he replaced the un-disciplined Tony Womack.

Young and Lopez are high strikeout guys. Young showed that he did not belong at leadoff (although he can be a very good hitter if managed correctly) and I believe Lopez would be the same.

So, without a legitimate cleanup hitter (I see Mark Reynolds as a classic #5 hitter, as was Matt Williams), I'd go with this group until we can add one.

1. SS Drew (L)
2. LF Jackson (R)
3. RF Upton (R)
4. 1B Tracy (L)
5. 3B Reynolds (R)
6. CF Young (R)
7. 2B Lopez (S)
8. C Snyder (R)
9. Pitcher

I'd rather see Young and Lopez stealing bases, which would open up 1B and eliminate the intentional walk for the heart of the batting order as well as the double play for the bottom of the batting order.

Eight guys capable of hitting 15-20+ homeruns, if they would be selective. Eight guys who could almost be interchangeable as primarily line drive hitters doing what winning is really about -- getting on base and driving in runs.

Any chance we see a Tracy/Byrnes lefty/righty rotation at 1B? With TC as a late inning PH/defensive replavement?

I have no idea but with football over and the Suns in institutional meltdown, I'm actually looking forward to baseball this year. Can't wait to see who surprises by making the 25 man roster coming out of spring training.

The thought of Chad Tracy at first (defensively) is unattractive.
