First of all, I do believe I have seen a somewhat identical thread but I can’t seem to find it. If there is such a thread the moderators can simply merge.

I think coach Whisenhunt should be fired. If not now then at the end of the season. There are many reasons behind my thinking and all of you know any of them – can’t motivate his players, doesn’t take responsibility, is determined to play a 3-4-system even though his personnel is suited for at 4-3-system, makes stupid decisions in free agency and the list just goes on.

But I also like to speculate on who could be a possible new head coach. I think that all the big guns, such as Jeff Fisher, Jon Gruden, Brian Billick and the likes would want total control of the team if they were to take over a pretty bad team, and I really don’t want that to happen, and I think that might have something to do with who the bad teams gets as new coaches. Ron Rivera in Carolina, Steve Spagnuolo in St. Louis, Jim Schwartz in Detroit just to name a few. All of them were coordinators before being promoted, and beside the fact that none of the big names perhaps were interested in the jobs it could also be because the ownership wanted a more balanced coaching staff and front office.

Another big thing to me is that any potentially new head coach has to prefer the 4-3 defense. The personnel might not be there for at top ranked defense but it sure is more likely than this 3-4 nonsense ever going to work.

I initially thought Kyle Shanahan would be the best option out there. He’s young, he’s aggressive, he makes offenses work, he has a highly successful dad and he seems to find the players’ biggest strengths.

However, I am simply in favor of defensive coaches. They just have more success. So I started to think about Mike Zimmer, who is currently the defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals. He is a very well-respected coach, who is both aggressive and disciplined. His players love to play for him and they won’t ever quit. This is his fourth year as the DC in Cincinnati and in those years his defense has been ranked #12, #4 and #15 in the league in total defense and currently they are the best defense through five games.

I have no idea if he is head coach-material but I do think he is intriguing.

It won't happen. In my opinion, Graves is the real issue. Bit smart enough to make solid football moves, and not strong enough to force his coach to make changes.

Doesn't matter until front office is changed.

I think you overestimate the importance of Rod Graves. The guy draft contracts. He doesn't pick the players. That is all on Whiz. The current mess is all on Whiz but the failure of some people to realize that, including those in Tempe, will keep him around awhile longer as the ship sinks to new depths. The new coach will have his hands full for sure trying to right this ship.

Graves is a GM, I am sure he has a lot more to do than just draft and negotiate contracts. In fact I think the team has a separate guy who is their salary cap/contract guy and it isn't Graves.
