1 Carolina Nick Fairley DT Auburn
-Big performance on a big stage. 3 technique, that can generate a pass rush. Carolina has more depth than you would think at DE, therefore devaluing Bowers.

2 Denver Da'Quan Bowers DE Clemson
-Transitioning to a 4-3 for a coach who saw the value of having a great DE in Peppers. CB a need, but should be options early in the 2nd.

3 Buffalo Von Miller OLB Texas A&M
-Gailey values speed, adn showed it in drafting Spillar last year. Wants to generate a pass rush out of the 3-4. Marcel Dareus an option as well. Secondary wasn't bad last year, just had too cover for too long.

4 Cincinnati Blaine Gabbert QB Missouri
-Hedging bets with Carson Palmer threatening to retire. Top QB, and the Bengals committed money to Marvin Lewis so he has the security to make this move. Has potential in running game to support learning curve.

5 Arizona Patrick Peterson CB LSU
-Impact player at a position of less need. adds value in the return game. Physical outside. Could be a spot too trade out of.

6 Cleveland AJ Green WR Georgia
-Big time offensive weapon for an offense that needs one. Not any better option for Cleveland if he is available.

7 San Francisco Robert Quinn OLB North Carolina
-Lack of depth at OLB with Manny Lawsno as a free agent. Transition player that is a risk, but also is a tremendous athlete. You could argue QB, or Marcel Dareus, but I think that Harbaugh will take one later.

8 Tennessee Cam Newton QB Auburn
-With a new coaching regime, a lack of depth, and a need for leadership I think this is the pick. He won't need to start right away, and seems to have the toughness to learn on the fly.

9 Dallas Marcel Dareus DE Alabama
-I can't see him lasting this long, but if he does he is perfect for Dallas.

10 Washington Jake Locker QB Washington
-Mobile QB with a strong arm seems like Shannahan's MO. Seems like a good time to make this move.

11 Houston Phil Taylor DT Baylor
-NT is the most valuable piece of 3-4. Taylor has a ton of physical skill, and should be able to hold the middle fo Wade Phillips.

12 Minnesota Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
-Best player on the board and will allow Winfield to move to a nickel back role ala Ronde Barber. No QB worth it right now, but OT also an option.

13 Detroit Tyron Smith OT USC
-Stafford hasn't played a full season, and it hasn't been because he hasn't been tough. About time the Lions address protecting their franchise.

14 St. Louis Julio Jones WR Alabama
-Big play wide receiver who should do for Bradford what Brandon Lloyd did for Kyle Orton. The Rams need the ability to stretch the field.

15 Miami Mark Ingram RB Alabama
-With both Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown being free agents, the Dolphins could use a power back like Ingram. No QB worth moving on here.

16 Jacksonville Cameron Jordan DE California
-Jacksonville needs to up their pas rush from their front four and Jordan fits that need. Also is from Cal, a program that they are comfortable with after scouting Alualu.

17 New England Adrian Clayborn DE Iowa
-While a pass rusher seems like the biggest need, the Patriots tends to use high draft picks on the d line first. Clayborn is a tough leader, who stacks and sheds linemen with skill that the Pats value. Neither Akeem Ayers or Aldon Smith seem to fit what the Pats look for this early.

18 San Diego Akeem Ayers OLB UCLA
-Edge rusher has been the Chargers biggest need since Merriman got injured. They take a conversion guy from their area who they hope will fill that need.

19 New York G Anthony Castonzo OT Boston College
-Big, tough, physical tackle that the Giants seem to like. He plays smart and seems like he could play either side. Biggest need for this team.

20 Tampa Bay Aldon Smith DE Missouri
-Some would like to project Aldon as an OLB in the 3-4, I think that he will fill out to be most effective as a 4-3 DE. Fits the mold of the smaller DE's used in the Tampa 2 front, and could open up the inside for Gerald McCoy.

21 Kansas City Gabe Carimi OT Wisconsin
-Seems like the perfect fit. Power RT, that could complement Brandon Albert on the left side.

22 Indianapolis Nate Solder OT Colorado
-The Colts have acknowledged that they need help at tackle, and Solder is arguably the best pass blocker of the top tackles. He needs work, but has tremendous potential at this spot.

23 Philadelphia Derek Sherrod OT Miss St.
-While they have otehr needs, the Eagles tend to value linemen over other positions in the first round. They struggled protecting the QB in 2010, and benched Winston Justice on the right side. Sherrod could establish either side of the line. CB also a real option here.

24 New Orleans Ryan Kerrigan DE Purdue
-The Saints need help getting a pass rush with their front four, and Kerrigan seems to fit that need. He is tenacious and can be moved around which Greg Williams seems to like in his players.

25 Seattle Corey Liuget DT Illinois
-While they have a pretty deep defensive line, but Liuget would be really solid value here. They also have needs at QB and CB, but I think they really want to rush with their front four.

26 Baltimore JJ Watt DE Wisconsin
-Tough and strong DE, that can fill in across the Baltimore defensive line. Corey Redding and Kelly Gregg are getting up their, and Watt seems like he fits what the Ravens do. CB is also an option, but the Ravens seems to value them less than other teams.

27 Atlanta Titus Young WR Boise St.
-Not a bunch of needs on this team, but another playmaker to complement Roddy White seems like a fit. They coudl use a pass rusher, but not many options that fit their scheme at this point.

28 New England Justin Houston OLB Georgia
-The Patriots fill their OLB need with a solid rush specialist, from a SEC team, and who has experience playing from a two point stance.

29 Chicago Mike Pouncey OG Florida
-Best linemen available for a line that really needs all the help it can get.

30 New York J Cameron Heyward DE Ohio St.
-Tough player who can help invigorate the defensive front of the Jets. Has the attitude that Ryan likes.

31 Pittsburgh Danny Watkins OG Baylor
-They probably would prefer a tackle, but the offensive line needs to be addressed. Watkins is older, but has the power and mobility that the Steelers like from their interior linemen. Will really complement Pouncey and Kemoeatu inside.

32 Green Bay Torrey Smith WR Maryland
-Not a bunch of needs, but with Driver possibly retiring and James Jones a free agent, this seems like the time to restock the wide receiver position. A wide open offense just doesn't work as well without receivers.

33 New England Aaron Williams CB Texas
-A secondary upgrade for an improving secondary. The Patriots might have bigger needs, but Williams has the stature and skills that would be hard for them to pass up.

34 Buffalo Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas
-With a lack of depth behind Fitzpatrick, Mallett seems like a solid "buy low" alternative to shore up their QB position. Mallett should be able to develop leadership and toughness behind a QB that is successful because of those skills more than physical skills.

35 Cincinnati Christian Ballard DE Iowa
-A bit of a reach in terms of production, but Ballard offers the pass rush potential that the Bengals are missing outside. Has the size that they seem to crave as well.

36 Denver Jimmy Smith CB Colorado
-After passing on Patrick Peterson in round 1, the Broncos address their need at CB. Big, physical kid who player in their backyard, and has the size that Fox likes in his corners.

37 Cleveland Stephen Paea DT Oregon St
-Transitioning to a 4-3 is tough, and Paea fills a major hole at the 3 technique. He can penetrate inside, and has a motor that will allow him to play in nickel packages as well.

38 Arizona Brooks Reed OLB Arizona
-A need pick in the second. Reed played college at Arizona, and has the tenacity that Horton will want outside. Seemed very comfortable standing up at the Senior Bowl, and showed both speed and power off the edge. Probably a reach, but fills a huge need.

Love it or hate it, that is how I see it right now.

If the draft falls this way and we cannot get Gabbert or Newton I go with Green who is probably the best sure thing in the draft and definitely the best player available when we draft. As we may lose Fitz and another WR Green would be a perfect fit. If Fitz is not going to sign with us next year we should go ahead and trade him if we draft Green. Two high picks for a guy that is likely to leave is a no brainer. I love Fitz who will someday be in the hall of fame. As it stands now we have little to offer him in the way of winning a championship. We do not even have a QB of today or the future. I do not think the draft will go this way but I have not seen one that I am confident in. The combines will tell us a lot. Some of these 270 lb guys may be 245 lb guys. One thing I do not want is Von Miller. I think he is to small as a run stopper and not a bull rusher by any means. Too small. Playing against inferior talent which has made his number look better than he is.

Fitzgerald will not be traded, and will re-sign in Arizona. Even if we wanted to consider trading him, we wouldn't be able to do so until after the draft. Also, I don't think that their is a team at this time that has two 1's next year or would be willing to trade consecutive #1's for a player who will require a huge contract and wouldn't get a full training camp to learn a new offense.

AJ Green is a solid player, but Patrick Peterson would be more valuable to the Cardinals at this point than AJ Green.

The Big 12 is not inferior talent in anyway. Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma St., Texas Tech, and Nebraska are hardly push overs, and A&M played them all this year plus Arkansas out of conference. The inferior talent argument is ridiculous in this specific case.

My dream would be to trade back with Minnesota at 12, and adding either an additional 2nd rounder this year or a 1st next year and a 4th this year.

Then take Justin Houston with the 12th pick, and hopefully an offensive tackle or cornerback drops into our laps. If not, I wouldn't be afraid to take Brooks Reed or Sam Acho with our 2nd rounder to fortify the position even more.

Dream Draft
1(12): Justin Houston OLB Georgia (trade with Minnesota)
2: Jimmy Smith CB Colorado
3: John Moffitt OG Wisconsin
4a: Jeremy Beal OLB Oklahoma
4b: Nate Irving ILB NC State (trade with Minnesota)
5: Jah Reid OT Central Florida
6a: Charles Clay HB Tulsa
6b: Jeff Meahl WR Oregon

(not gonna happen, but I can dream)

One thing to remember. Nobody in the Big XII runs the football. They pass on every down. :D

The last time I looked Arkansas was in the SEC. Since I live in Little Rock I think i just might be correct. Look at some of the non Big 12 teams he had big games in. I did. The Big 12 is not the SEC who has won 6 consecutive national titles and who clearly is the class of college football. Not so with basketball. The Big East and some of those various teams from the East like Duke, Connecticut seem to always be the teams to beat just as they are this year.

Yeah, you stated that he played against inferior competition, and as an out of conference game they played Arkansas. I was pointing out their strength of schedule.

As for looking at his stats, did you really? Because of his 11 sacks in his senior season, they all came in games against Arkansas(1), Missouri(1), Texas Tech(1), Oklahoma(2), Baylor(1), Nebraska(2), Texas(2) and LSU(1). It look to me like there are some pretty solid teams in this group.

Only question: What is the composition of the QB position next year?

Bulger/Skelton/Hall?

Not saying the draft will cure this position, I just want to know who you'd have us bring in as a QB if we aren't drafting one.

At this point, you would have to target free agency. Bulger/Skelton/Hall isn't terrible in this offseason. I prefer Orton to Kolb, but if the CBA gets done they could also be an option. Our QB situation is one of the reasons that I would ideally like to improve the defensive personnel and offensive line. I think that if we added with Bulger/Smith/Orton/Kolb, coupled with an improved Skelton, and better offensive line, and more consistent defense we take two steps forward.

Also adding future picks by trading down improves what we can do as a team down the line.

Unless the attitude that Rex Ryan likes is terrible, then Heyward doesn't have it.

Pretty much contrary to all the reports that I have read about Heyward. I'm not saying that you don't know, I'm just saying I have never heard it before.

His motor runs cold too often and even when he's motivated he's not that productive. He has talent but I don't think he's first round good.

I think it's more that he gets gassed. Tressel seemed to play him almost every down in the games I watched. Getting doubled as an edge rusher takes a lot of gas out of a player. Being asked to do it every single play, well there aren't many players in the league who do that.

That said, I don't see him as a 3-4 player so I doubt he goes to the Jets. He'll probably be the Bengals or Browns 2nd round pick if he lasts that late.
