Damn! Poor Barbero. Did anyone watch that race? It was horrible seeing that horse in pain. Sounds like he has a break above and below his ankle. Definitely ends his racing career. Could be life threatening. :(

Hope he makes it out to stud. Gotta get something in return for kicking butt in the Derby.

That whole race was weird. First Barbaro goes blasting out of the gates early.....then he pulls up lame.

Overshadows a good race by Bernardini. He won going away. He should dominate the Belmont.

I dunno. I'd watch out for that Sweetnorthern Saint.

Maybe Saint's jockey just ran a terrible race....but Saint was totally gassed coming down the stretch. Next race is a Mile and a half.....we'll see.

What's up with Brother Derek?? Why does he keep fading?? An overrated horse??

Agreed - Barbaro would have already been put down if he wasn't the Kentucky Derby winner - the owners are just clinging to hope that they can ride that gravy train out to stud. As is, Barbaro's surgeon says that it is only a 50/50 chance he will live.

Why does that make you hate horse racing?

I don't think it's right to risk the lives of horses so people can gamble.

I also hate dog racing.

Human racing is cool, though.

:D

I honestly dont feel a horse is any more likely to break a leg in a race than in the wild running around a grazing field or mountain side. I know one thing, when alive those animals are treated like royalty.

Now dog racing I agree with. Those animals are largely abused.

Race horses have it made. Run around in a circle a few times and then you get an early retirement where you get to hook up with hot fillies.

This also extends to Shawn Kemp.

Is a broken leg really life threatening to a horse? I know infection and all, but damn.

Makes you feel good to be a human. You can break your skull and survive.

Poor horse.

I think it has something to do with the how the horse recovers after surgery. They cannot be propped up for an extended period of time like a human because their organs are super delicate.
