Apr. 8—It's hard to believe, but the final week of the high school baseball regular season is here.

Next week the playoffs will begin, meaning this is the last week for several local teams to complete their playoff push.

A few local teams know exactly what they need to win their area or secure a playoff berth, while others must win and hope tiebreakers fall their way.

Two areas this week will be decided by games involving four local teams.

In Class 2A, Area 16, No. 3 Decatur Heritage and No. 10 Lindsay Lane are both 4-0 in area play and will meet to decide the area. The winner will host a first-round playoff series, while the loser will travel.

In Class 6A, Area 15, No. 1 Hartselle (21-6) takes on Athens (16-7). Hartselle, which sits at 4-0 in area play, needs just one win against the Golden Eagles to clinch the area, while Athens, which is 2-2 in area play, needs to win the series to remain in contention for the playoffs.

Decatur (7-16), which is also in Class 6A, Area 15, would need a series win over Muscle Shoals and plenty of help, as the Red Raiders are 0-4 in area play.

Here's how other teams' playoff fortunes are shaping up:

—Lawrence County will play Priceville in Class 5A, Area 14. Lawrence County needs just one victory to win the area and a first-round home playoff game for the first time since 2009. Priceville, which is in its first season in Class 5A, needs to win the series to avoid being eliminated from playoff contention.

—Class 1A, No. 7 Athens Bible (13-4) will play No. 5 Addison (18-8) to decide Area 14. Both have clinched a playoff spot.

—West Morgan (12-10) has clinched a playoff spot and plays Danville (4-13), needing one win to clinch Class 4A, Area 15. Danville needs a series win to keep any postseason hope alive.

—Elkmont (16-8) will play Whitesburg Christian (15-10) to decide Class 3A, Area 15. Both teams have clinched a playoff spot.

—Hatton (14-14) needs a series win over Deshler in Class 4A, Area 14 play to stay in playoff contention.

—West Limestone (12-14) needs a series win over Westminster Christian to clinch a playoff spot in Class 4A, Area 15. The Wildcats swept St. John Paul II last week but lost their series with Randolph earlier this season.

—East Limestone (18-9) plays Madison Academy to decide Class 5A, Area 16. Ardmore (14-12), which plays Scottsboro, is on the outside looking in.

—Clements (11-11) needs a series win over Lauderdale County to stay in playoff contention in Class 3A, Area 16.
