I also think another difference was that he was a HC before even though it was in college, so he already had HC’ing experience.
true as well.

but did anyone ever remember his name being bandied about prior to the Giants? It really did seem like a steady hand OC, all of a sudden got vaulted to HC because the Cardinals offense exploded for like 3 weeks and was actually somewhat and surprsingly competent for a season.

Petzing chances will come down to last 8 games with Kyler. If Cards offense is bonkers good, Petzing will be gone. I think we will like Murray in this offense. If Murray plays bad, yuppty yup.

Because he falls apart in every season, even with minimal use?

You seriously think he's a credible second back, instead of a gimmick player?
I think with Conner, all you need is a gimmick back. When Conner is healthy, you want to give him as many snaps as he can handle. If he is hurt, you are running with a committee anyway. I will take the player whose gimmick is big plays.

Yeah, I really think that Conner was best when he had a Kenyan Drake/Chase Edmonds type compliment. I don't think we have anyone credible, and that Conner can be managed on a pitch count. I'd at least like to see them try.

Uh, no, with Conner you need a definite plan B for the inevitable games he misses. "All you need is a gimmick back?" No way, man.

But you aren't going to fill all of the things Conner does in one back which will lead to a committee regardless. It's not like teams carry many low cost, do everything RBs on their rosters. And there are certainly not any options for big play RBs on the waiver wire this time of year.

The argument that Moore is a limited player should not disqualify him from a limited role. Especially one that seems to play more to his strengths than his current role as a token undersized WR.

guys: fans revolt when their team hires the coordinator from a 5-12 team. Let’s worry about this after a playoff run.
i think Petzing is a guy who will get looks this offseason

but Im with Mao:

Ben Johnson of the Lions probably tops the list for people looking offense.
Darrell Bevel of the Dolphins maybe gets some looks -- Seahawk OC and now has spent two years with McDaniels

Only QB, LG, and C can you really say we don’t have at least average NFL players. This should be an average offense.

Surprise, we’re in the middle third of the NFL.
I would argue bottom 20% talent-wise for sure. QB is in that percentile and our WR’s are very average. I like what we have at tackle seemingly however. TE also mediocre.

Petzing getting us to the middle of the league with what I described above is actually a feather in his cap.

Cardinals OC Lands on Future Coaching Candidates List

Cardinals OC Drew Petzing, 36: A onetime Middlebury College defensive back whose playing career was curtailed by injuries, Petzing broke into the NFL as a football operations intern with the Browns in 2013 before rising through the coaching ranks in Minnesota and again in Cleveland, then reuniting with former Vikings cohort Jonathan Gannon in Arizona this past offseason. The Cardinals have started three different QBs (and played extended stretches without other key players) in a rebuilding season. Other coaches laud the job Petzing has done under challenging circumstances, and his reputation has been positive at every stop in his young coaching career.
