I dont know how 14 NFL teams are going to be ready with their QBs not taking a snap in preseason. Josh Allen and Justin Herbert being a couple of them. Oh well Im sure a few of them will figure it out.
The three areas I really worry about in regards to a lack of preseason reps are the defensive backfield, ILB, and offensive line.
Defensive backfield because they are all very inexperienced playing next to each other and in my experience cohesiveness is more important than overall talent in the secondary. Game reps matter to develop that cohesiveness.
ILB because they are so inexperienced as a group and brand new playing next to each other. Also, Simmons inexperience at a traditional LB role impacts this as well. Moving through the trash, shooting gaps full speed, and working as one in again tough to replicate in modern practices.
Offensive line because of the physicality and improv it requires to work together as a unit. Really tough to replicate in modern practices and real reps just matter with this group.
DL, meh. OLB, meh. RB, meh. QB, meh. WR, meh. All of these can get what they need without preseason games IMO.
