President Donald Trump will head to Pennsylvania this weekend to attend the NCAA wrestling championships in his first visit to the Keystone State since his inauguration.
Trump, a longtime sports fan — he attended the Daytona 500 and Super Bowl 59 — will likely throw in a few rounds of golf at his Bedminster club before he ends his weekend attending the wrestling event, which began at noon today, March 20, and ends Saturday, March 22.
The collegiate Division I event is expected to draw 100,000 to the Wells Fargo Center over the course of the week, with tickets to the general public having sold out within hours, according to PhillyVoice.
An official Federal Aviation Administration notice dropped Thursday, detailing when Trump will arrive in Pennsylvania and when he'll likely be at the arena. It was first reported Trump would appear after the White House retweeted a post on X from Clay Travis, the founder of Outkick, that stated Travis would be traveling with Trump on Air Force One over the weekend.
The championships will feature 330 athletes, competing with Penn State, who is a heavy favorite and could win their fourth title in a row.
Here's the timeline of Trump's arrival, and where the championships are taking place.
The Wells Fargo Center is a multi-purpose arena located in South Philadelphia on South Broad Street, about three minutes from Lincoln Field (home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles).
Wells Fargo Center is home to the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL), Philadelphia 76ers (NBA) and part-time home for the Villanova University Wildcats (NCAA men's basketball). It's held notable sporting events over the years, including the 1997 and 2010 Stanley Cup finals and three games of the 2001 NBA finals.
Trump is expected to arrive on or around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 and may leave no later than 10:30 p.m., according to the FAA, although the timing could change.
Trump is expected to arrive on a heliport near the Wells Fargo Center around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to an FAA temporary flight restriction alert. The alert doesn't mention Trump by name; however, it indicates "VIP movement," which refers to the president and/or other public figures associated with the White House.
The temporary flight restriction, which prevent some or all flights from entering a certain radius while a VIP aircraft is nearby, expires at 10:30 p.m.
The first round of the NCAA wrestling championships started at noon today, March 20, with the second round, first round of wrestle-backs, at 7 p.m.
The championship finals conclude at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.
