Probably not true, but did the Maxx injury take the life out of the offense (until late)? How do we replace him

Your list.

Zach Ertz
Mike Gesicki
Lee Smith
Kyle Rudolph
Evan Engram (but he is less of a blocker than any on the list)

I don't believe the Bucs are trading Howard at this point.
Same with Njoku since he is more valuable in their offense than OBJ.

So, best blocker replacement is probably Rudolph. Best all around is Gesicki.
I was thinking gesicki then Rudolph. Rudolph most closely approximates Maxx.

My thinking is there is not who can block and catch like Maxx available in the league this time of the year. It is rather easier to find someone who can run block great and occasionally catch a pass to keep the element of surprise. Players with these skills are likely to be available in practice squads across the league. If they can find someone with Maxx skills that would be terrific.

I agree with you. I think Maxx was just super underrated, and a big reason why the offense was clicking.

I will say that, when Maxx went down and they were bringing out the cart, the entire team left the sideline to cross the field to see him. The entire team. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Just a testament to what he means to these guys.

Kyler was hurt. Sounded like they said he had a bicep soreness. Maxx going down is going to be big but hopefully we can find someone somewhat similar. Hudson I feel won't miss a game.

It's not about just finding someone. Say we went big and traded for Gesicki as Chopper wants this is a complicated play book for the TE. A lot is asked of them in how they line up, blocking etc. Maxx has it all down, even Daniels doesn't and he's been here years. It would take a while for anyone knew to be comfortable.

Maxx would be a huge loss if out a long time. He's underrated in this offense. He's quite a crucial cog in the machine.

That showed team character and what respect Maxx had

I don't know that he is available especially since Gronk is out. The only thing they likely would trade him for would be secondary help which we really don't have to offer.

That is why I think you have to either give up very little or get someone who is under contract for an extra year (or extend them with the trade). Also means if you are going to make a move, making it sooner vs later will be key.

This dude was invisible and the weakest link on our team every year he's been here except for a couple games this year. I feel bad for the guy, he's an awesome dude as a person, but we'll be okay.

I was thinking last night they ought to call Greg Olsen and see if he'd consider coming out of retirement but I think we really ideally want a run blocker more than pass catcher at TE.

I've never had a real problem with Maxx (the SF game last year he was bad) but no matter how you feel about him currently, there is no denying he was flat out balling this year. I could care less about previous years, but he has been invaluable this season. This is a major blow, no matter how you slice it.

You run more 4 WR sets and get Rondale more touches.

We don't have the personnel to replace Maxx. Don't even try it. Replace that nasty blocking with pure speed.
