Omo, Darren or some other Cardinal insider -

Please share with us the process by which Rod Graves and his people go about finding a QB to back up Kurt Warner.

I visualized Rod hitting the Roladex and starting to make calls to teams and agents before the second quarter was over.

Or perhaps our personnel dept. does a lot of the prep work on an ongoing basis so that a list ranking available QB's was already in place. It wouldn't surprise me.

Or perhaps one or more enterprising agents were on the horn to Rod before the Lanocane on Matt's collarbone had even kicked in.

Hmmm. It would be interesting to know just how any deal goes down.

They've got a board with every position and a list of top down players they'd want if injuries hit.

They'll start at the top and work their way down.

Remembering all practice squad guys are available. This isn't a game of pick a card any card. They've probably have a guy in town this morning working out and ready to take a physical. He flew out to AZ last night.

My bet is by 3pm the Cards announce a signing.

I guessing it will be Shane Boyd.

He knows the offense.
He knows our wr's
He's comes from Whiz's system.

Not saying what should or shouldn't be, just guessing.

Here's a thought: Dante Culpepper.

Just throwing the name out there. I don't know if we try to make a trade for him this season, or try to sign him in the off-season, but I'll bet he could run this offense pretty well--with the added threat of a run every now and again.

The Pioneer Press is reporting that sources out of Denver are suspecting a Culpepper for Larry Fitzgerald and a first round pick deal might be in the works.

:lmao:

Seriously, though...I've by no means given up on Leinart, but you have to admit it's disconcerting his seeming regression this year an the only thing he seems to consistently be able to do is hurt his shoulder.

We're always going to need a backup plan with him, I think. I'd rather go out and get a good, experienced backup for him in the off-season, but short of that I think we need to spend a first-day pick on the position.

I'm not hitting the panic button, yet. I'm just trying to address what I think could be an ongoing concern for the single most important position on the offense.

WOuldnt the process of bringing in a new QB just call for bringing the guy we already have up from the practice squad? Seems logical to me. He has a working knowledge of our offense.

I see where you are going. Will Kurt Warner not be that experience backup? It is an interesting question.

Reguardless of who we bring in Warner will be the starter. Culpepper is in a one year deal trying to show he hasn't lost it. He would never agree to come here and back up anyone.

Not to mention, we can't afford Culpepper. I believe his salary is 3-4m.

What's our cap situation? And if we put someone on IR - do they still count against the cap? What would we have to do to clear off space to make it happen?

Wiz this morning stated on the radio that he wont say how long Matt will be out until the MRI.

They alredy have a list 2-3 names of veteran FA QB's they will call today or have already called. Didnt say who the names are but that is were they are right now. Expect to see a physical and roster moves done tommorow. Most likely Brandon Johnson Being cut again.

He should share an apartment with Nate Poole.

Jeff I sure agree that agents for other unhappy QB's would be on the phone by the time the game was over and they knew Matt had a broken bone. I wonder if they are even looking for another QB? If they are why hide it?

I much agree. Matt has gone backwards since last year so we should be somewhat concerned. I am not giving up on him but would be thinking about drafting a QB next year if one somehow does not fall into our lap this year. Matt will still be a rookie next year basically if he does not come back this year.

Not really, the practice squad QB generally runs the opposing team's offense in practice every week.

It will be Touchdown Tommy Maddox, you heard it here first.

In his 3rd year. Not a panic or condemning statement, but this reminds me of Grossman - "As soon as he can stay healthy and play - he'll be great." is what one announcer said about him at the beginning of last season.

More info from the Blogs.

Urban seems to think Matt will be out for the season(his own gut feeling)
Wiz wont rule out a trade.

Will without question not be for Jake Plummer(his contract is to big and would have to trade for him)

Tim Rattay seems to be the name being thrown around, local product, lives in town and would get here fast without any move to worry about.
