With a six-game winning streak, the Tigers continue to climb toward .500. Pudge Rodriguez got there Wednesday night, however.
Capping the best month ever for a Tigers hitter, Rodriguez had three hits in a 12-5 victory over the Indians to finish June with a .500 batting average (43-for-86).
No Tiger with at least 70 at-bats had ever hit .450 in a month — let alone .500. The last player in the majors to accomplish it was Colorado’s Todd Helton in 2000.
“I’ve always said that Todd is the best hitter I’ve ever seen,” said the Tigers’ Greg Norton, who has played with Helton and Rodriguez, “but to do this in Comerica Park instead of Coors Field is even more impressive.”
