And he will be useful for about the first five years before he handcuffs them with his massive contract.

They have a big tv contract that just got bigger. CJ Wilson's k will turn out to be worse.

Damn, I wish he owned the Dbacks...

Arte is the man!

:cats:

:D

Actually, I'm comfortable with the D-Backs at the moment. I'm also hopeful that with Pujols leaving the NL, it gives Paul Goldschmidt an opportunity to become an all-star and a top-tier first baseman.

Sad to see him leave the Cards but glad they aren't handcuffed by his contract for the next 10 years. Good luck with that Anaheim.

CJ Wilson just signed with them also.

Their GM is Jerry Dipoto who used to be our assistant general manager.

While I understand Angels fans are happy. No doubt Albert has done great. 254 million is a huge chunk of change no matter how good he is. He has a few more productive years but this contract will be a huge ball and chain 4 to 5 years ago. He has had some injury issues The Cards can move Berkman to 1st and get other players without the ball and chain of this contract. They should see Moneyball

I disagree with myself now. The last 5 years of the Pujols deal is potentially brutal. But if Pujols produces it might work out. Wilson is probably a good deal.

And it is better than paying that money to John lackey and Carl Crawford.

You're ok with paying your DH $25M a year? :doi:
I hate the DH, but in the American League it is one of nine positions in the batting order. 4-5 at-bats every game. Especially important if he is the #3 or #4 hitter.

Is it proportionally any different than paying millions to a good field-no hit shortstop (batting 8th or 9th), who would hurt his team less by sitting on the bench when his turn to bat comes up, but you pay him and play him for his fielding?

Are you willing to pay the higher ticket prices, beer prices, etc?

I think the Angels have some of the lowest beer prices and even concessions as a whole. Went to see the U2 concert in that stadium over the summer and they had 20oz beers for $7 or $8 bucks. Much better than the 4oz $4 beers at Chase.
