^He was a Koetter recruit, I think Erickson preferred Szakacsy to Foles because he's a bit more mobile and will fit Ericksons system better. Foles is now apparently going to go to Mich St.. I wish him good luck, maybe in a few years we can have a Foles vs Szakacsy Rose Bowl :D

Go ASU. Some recruiting " experts " are saying USC's quality will be high but the quantity will be lower this year. Too much competition and success will do that. Schools like ASU can offer quicker playing time. Kind of hard to believe USC is losing QB recruits like this , but it happens. They lost Jimmy Claussen to Notre Dame. Now this.

I imagine Erickson can offer his sytstem to skill position recruits better than most. He has sent a few to play on Sundays.

It's not really the 'sky is falling' scenario you're making it it out to be in Trojan Land, they still have JDB and Mark Sanchez for the next four years and another QB who is supposedly better than the guy ASU just got that will sign on Wednesday. That's the reason he'll be in Tempe and not Watts, he was a luxury to the latter and is a necessity to the former.

That's just the reality of Pete Carroll's USC. I really have no clue how anyone not named Texas or LSU is going to surpass them as a program over the next decade. What's really driving the point home is their assistants leaving in droives for better opportuniites and the program not appearing to lose a step.

I'll take scraps from USC anyday...I have no delusions about being able to compete with them, but a few years of success under Erickson, and who knows?:koolaid:

All good things must come to an end. USC will maybe get too cocky, or Carroll will leave, or there will be some scandal, or some other Pac school will be able to put together back to back stellar seasons (I hope its ASU). USC isn't going to reign forever.

Like the back-to-back stellar seasons that Oregon and Cal have put together in recent years? That hasn't gotten those programs in the same conversation as USC.

Obviously at some point USC's reign will come to an end, but often times college dynasties last as long as two or three decades. I have a feeling that's what USC is shaping up to be with all the huge advantages they have over everyone else in the Pac-10 unless Caroll leaves (which I do not think will happen) or they get busted for major discretions (which is possible, but have a feeling the NCAA will not be in a hurry to flush such a profitable program down the toilet). I've already come to grips with the reality that every Pac-10 championship will run through LA for the foreseeable future, I'd suggest you ASU fans do the same before you go insane. I have a feeling us Pac-10 fans will be left begging for their scraps when it comes to both recruits and titles for a long time.

When I said stellar seasons, I meant Pac10 titles. Oregon and Cal haven't done that. If some Pac school did that 2 years in a row, it would maybe dethrone USC, but its going to be very difficult to do that.

Mao, you are far too negative in outlook.
USC hasn't lost at home nor by more than a touchdown since John Mackovic and Dirk Koetter's first year at their respective Arizona schools. Even in their "rebuilding" years - such as Leinart and Bush's first years starting and this last year under Booty they won the Pac with little resistance. Anyone can see that USC is light years ahead of the rest of the Pac-10 in every important factor - tradition, recruiting base, fan support, football budget, and most importantly coaching and player talent already in the pipeline.

Believe me, from a long time USC fan - we want you to succeed (not beat us though!), but succeed - we want the PAC-10 to get the respect it deserves...we all win then. Congratulations on your recruits, and I agree that in a few years you will be at the top with us! Good luck!

Thanks bud, I have been to the last two ASU-USC games in Cali, and have found USC fans to be extremely classy every time. I know it's easier to have class when you are winning, but regardless I have always been impressed with the USC fans. Colorado fans in Boulder, that's a different story. Maybe it was the losing last year, but they were unbelievably rude.

I will tell you what it is, and this is sincere.....respect. Yes, we have had a successful football team on the field, and we have been the team to beat for sometime....so the young men from opposing teams who proudly put on their uniforms and play their hearts out deserve our respect - as do their fans - regardless of the score. May we Trojans never forget what it feels like to lose....and for that reason we have no right to be arrogant or rude.

By the way, ASU played great....we were scared to death that you were going to beat us...at home!

I guess we're finding out why Pete wasn't so upset over losing this guy to ASU. The rich keep getting richer, Mitch Mustain is rumored to be all set to transfer to Watts University.

http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/archives/2007/02/mustain_update_1.html

In a down year for West Coast QBs, USC arguably will have the three best QBs in the Pac-10 on their roster in 2007.

I wasn't impressed at all this year with Mustain, he was flat awful in the games I saw him play in? I guess his overall stats were better not much different than Casey Dick but they sure seemed to play better with Mustain on the bench. When you consider that Arkansas had to hire his HS coach to get him, that he left after one year is quite a slap in the face for the school.

I think it was Bob Griese working the bowl game this year that was ultra critical of Mustain, kept commenting on how in such a run oriented offense it was not all that hard for a QB to succeed at Arkansas and how disappointed he was with Mustain's lack of progress.

He'll be a in pro set in LA but I wouldn't be surprised is Sanchez proves to be the better QB, if he doesn't get in any more trouble of course.

The whole situation with Mustain is pretty shady, he left becase Nutt promised him he would install the offense his HS coach ran and he eventually went back on his word and ran the offense Mustain wasn't familiar with. He certainly was not great, but a true frosh QB going 6-1 as a starter when he had spent the entire offseason thinking he was going to redshirt certainly is not something to be down about.

I agree that Mark Sanchez will be better (south Orange County people insist he's better than Marinovich, Leinart, Palmer, Johnson, etc and he was supposedly just as good as JDB in the offseason) but USC's depth at the QB position has gone from serviceable to scary good.

USC is so loaded at every position, it has become the juggernaut it was back in the early seventies.
