Mississippi State sophomore center Quanirah Montague left with an apparent left leg injury in the second quarter of Saturday's NCAA tournament first round game against Cal.

Montague went up for a layup attempt at the 7:35 mark of the second quarter and hit her leg against a defender for the Golden Bears. She remained on the ground for several minutes before being helped off the court by a trainer, putting little pressure on her left leg.

Montague was the No. 9 Bulldogs' leading scorer with four points off the bench at the time of the injury with Mississippi State leading 16-8.

The winner of Saturday's game will take on No. 1 USC (29-3) on Monday at the Galen Center. The Trojans defeated No. 16 UNC Greensboro, 71-25, at home on Saturday in the first round of the tournament.

Quanirah Montague injury update​


Just six minutes after leaving the game with a left leg injury, ESPN's Holly Rowe said Montague was cleared to reenter.

Montague banged her left leg against a Cal defender while going for a layup in with 7:24 left in the second quarter and was helped off the court by trainers, putting little weight on her left leg.

Rowe said the injury was a knee-to-knee contact, but she would be able to return after being cleared by the medical staff

The broadcast showed Montague working on the bike on the sidelines to help get ready for a return to the floor.
