MIAMI -- The Philadelphia 76ers are in a position nobody expected they'd be in at this stage of the 2024-25 season. Dealing with a ton of injuries and a lot of things out of their control, the Sixers are sitting at 23-56 and in the midst of a 12-game losing streak.

There is a school of thought that this is a good thing as the tanking crowd wants the Sixers to be in the best position possible to keep their top 6 protected draft pick. Losing enough games equals the best chances in the lottery to keep their pick.

However, the Sixers don't want to hear none of that. There is a lot on the line for them and Quentin Grimes is here to win games as shown in his--and the rest of the team's--hard-nosed play in these games. He isn't worried about a draft pick or the lottery. It's about creating something to build on.

"I personally don’t like it, because you want to build culture," Grimes told Sixers Wire of some wanting them to lose. "You don’t build a culture with that kind of negative mindset a little bit. Every time I step on the court, I’m trying to win every game. We lose? That's a result, then that is what it is. Every time I step on the court, I'm doing whatever I can to help my team win every day."

Grimes and the rest of the Sixers have put forth a terrific effort despite the noise around them about the draft pick and everything else that comes with being in the position they're in. They have been right there in a lot of these games on the current skid, but have just come up short. The effort has been there and that's beginning to set a culture of coming to work and playing hard every day.

That's the focus. Building something that lasts. Not on losing or going after a draft pick.

"I feel like trying to win sets a culture and sets a standard for our organization," Grimes added. "You don't have a negative mindset on trying to lose. That can get a snowball effect later on. So I just try to keep it a positive mindset, not worry about the tanking noise or whatever people are saying about that. Just go out there, play as hard as I can, help the team win."

It's obvious that the Sixers are coming to work every day focused on trying to build rather than any draft pick or tanking nonsense that gets thrown around on social media and things of that nature. That doesn't affect them at all and it's impressive to see.

"To be honest, I'm not a big social guy," added Adem Bona. "I don’t pay attention to this stuff. I don't look. I just come here. Do my business. You know? Work hard. Do what the coaches need me to do. I don't pay attention to stuff like that."

The Sixers will take on the Washington Wizards on the road on Wednesday.
