how can you copy just the audio from a mpeg & convert it to a wav or another audio file?

I just want the audio for a CD I am making

i have the mpeg saved on my computer - it's 1:41 long

I just tried out that program I posted a link for.

It seems to work ok and is easy to use.

Once installed just click start to choose a source and destination.

Cool edit 2000 pro is awesome will convert anything to anything, even let you edit any part of the file... I found it as a free full version because it was the old one.. don't even know what the new version is now but I will try to find a link to the full download...

Here is a freeware program.

I haven't tried it but it looks like it should do the trick.

That says mp3 to wav. Will that also convert mpeg audio (mp2) to wav/mp3.

I suggest you first extract the audio from the file and then convert that to something else. The audio in the file will be mp2 aka mpa. You can extract it using the program TMPGEnc:
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_download.html
http://download1.pegasys-inc.com/download_files/TMPGEnc-2.524.63.181-Free.zip
Once you have the program you would then open it and:
1) File -> Mpeg tools
2) Click De-multiplex tab
3) Click Browse and select mpg of interest
4) Double click on the audio stream and save it.

Now you should have an .mp2 file. I would first suggest you see if your cd burning software recognizes the file (some will only do .mp3 or .wav). If that doesn't work you'll have to convert the file with another program. I use BeSweet. WinAmp supposedly can convert .mp2 files too.

Cool Edit Pro had many incarnations. Cool Edit Pro 1.0 and Cool Edit Pro 2.0 were great multi-track audio recording programs. Cool Edit Pro 2000 was a stripped down version of CEP 1.0 program, meant for basic consumer audio. I did a band demo entirely in Cool Edit 1.0 back a few years ago and I currently use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 as my main wave editor. It's a powerful program and can use any DirectX plugins.

The new version of Cool Edit Pro is called Adobe Audition, and from what I've heard it's one of the best multitrackers on Windows. Hopefully it's taking the place of E Logic Pro Audio, which Apple bought out and is now releasing ONLY as a Mac program.
