Okay Harry, I know the draft is still a month away but I would like your opinion on this hypothetical situation.

Lets assume all things remain as they are. No additional draft picks . Nobody released or traded.

I'd like to know what your top 8 player are as of today.

I'm thinking the best value when we are on the clock will be a cb. But what do we do if at #8 there is a choice of Antrell Rolle, Cedric Benson, Alex Smith, Braylon Edwards, and Derrick Johnson were all there?

How far do you lean toward need as opposed to BPA ranking.

If Braylon Edwards is a 9.4 on a scale of 10 and Antrell Rolle, Alex Smith ,Derrick Johnson and Cedric Benson are a 9.2, should we really take Braylon Edwards? Where do you draw the line between BPA and need?

Also , if the Cards were to take a cb in the first round, I gotta believe we go rb in the second round. Guys like Ciatrick Fason, J.J. Arrington, Vernand Morency, Eric Shellton and Walter Reyes may all be there at #44. In your opinion which of these guys is the best fit for us?

Thanks in advance ,Harry.

All other opinions are more than welcome.

Take it for what it is worth but Denny stated in an interview that they would take the best player available at #8 but not a wr as he feels they are loaded at that position. I also don't think they would take a qb at #8 if one of the two dropped that far. Interested to see what Harry says.

Im still in the mode that LB Derrick Johnson is the way to go! I know we have other "more pressing" needs but the thought of him on one side and Dansby on the other is downright scary! They will make our CBs instantly better with the heat they will be able to put on opposing QBs..

Go Cards/ America!

There's a chance DJ will be there with Benson and Rolle at the #8 spot. The only way we pick up DJ is if DJ is high on Greens draft board or we signed Hill and another FA CB.

I guess I'm on the clock. However, I'm not ready to sort every thing out yet. Mike or Skorp will some post a chart which will give you a better idea of how I see all the rounds.

That said, let me respond this way. I do not believe in this cap era that the vast majority of the teams can take the BPA. It's nonesense anyway as a BPA won't even likely be the first selection. Of the athletes you list as available, the BPA is definitely Edwards, probably followed by Rolle.

As to my selection from that group, when you see my chart you will know it is hard for me to pass on Edwards, but I would. I also believe that the Cards have done enough on defense to win, so I'd pass on Johnson. I am probably alone in this view, but I think the Cards can win with Shipp starting. They certainly don't need another non-starting QB, so Rolle is the choice by default. You will see when my article posts, he would not be my choice in the real draft. However, I believe he would be the choice of virtually all GMs if they were picking for the Cards and facing your scenario.

Good Answer

very diplomatic response to a tough question...truly Edwards is a great athlete but I have to say that Rolle is my top choise unless Ronnie Brown falls to us. I think we will end up with Cadillac but Rolle has the mental edge of a WINNER and that is what I am looking for in my first pick.

Cadillac will be long gone. He has impressed everyone on and off the field since the end of the season. I'd be astonished to see him fall that far.

Do you think that any of the "Big 3" RB's will fall?

For any of you Rolle doubters...

NFL Network featured Rolle recently. What impressed me as much as his size and cover ability was his ability and willingness to play teeth-rattling run support. The NFL Net piece removed any lingering doubts I may have had about him.

This is why I've been pimping Rolle. Not only can he cover well but he's also good against the run and is bigger than any of our other corners. As much as we talk about strengthening our D up the middle that wasn't the only reason we got run on last year. We gave up a lot of yardage on outside runs too.

There is no doubt that Rolle is the best athlete among the corners coming out and he might be a star. However, he will have to make major adjustments to his game now that rules have been tightened on contact beyond the line. He is not a pure cover corner and he will have to really sharpen his skills to be effective in the NFL as he was in college. There is no doubt he has the talent;there is some doubt he has the discipline. With a pick as high as 8, for my money, you make the safe choice and go Rogers. He's not the hitter Rolle is, but he is a solid corner whose game transitions well under the new rules. He may not be a Pro Bowl player, buy he should start for the next 10 years and he can contribute immediately. Rolle will make some big plays, but likely incur far more penalties and get burned more before he adjusts.
