Question: Is this the longest we've ever been in 1st place??

I was thinking about that today. I know the 74' Cardinals started 7-0 and won the division. The 75' team finished 11-3 but not sure if they were in 1st from game one. I'm thinking we've (ARIZONA) been in 1st now for 2 1/3 seasons. If so, what an amazing run and all the more reason to be appreciative of our good fortune. Help, anyone?? GO CARDS! :D

Most likely. It's also most likely the longest any Division in the NFL has gone with only one team having a winning record. Last time two NFC West teams finished the season with a winning record? 2003.

It's also been that long since neither the Steelers, Patriots or Colts have played in the Super Bowl.

While an interesting thing to say, that oddity falls short of the even more odd of Super Bowl history.

There was a similar ten year run from 1970-1979 with Minnesota, Dallas and Miami. And thanks to the frustration of one particular team, there was a seven year run from 1989-1995 that had just two teams: San Francisco and Buffalo (but then, seven year runs aren't hard when one team plays four years in a row).

From 1989 to 1996 Dallas and SF won 6 of the 8 titles. Also don't forget that during that 1970-79 time frame the Steelers won 3 times.

Just goes to show you that in the NFL there has almost always been a handful of teams that dominate for several years at a time.

Cards have had at least a share of the division lead since week 7 or 8 of last season. 2 1/3 seasons would be nice, but its not accurate.

17 weeks in 2008. Weeks 8-17 last season. 1-5 this season. Still really impressive for the Arizona Cardinals.

Steelers won 4 times in the 1970’s, 74,75,78,79 (played in 1980). From 1971-1980 only 4 teams represented the AFC in the SB, Pitt(4), Mia(3), Oak(2), Den(1). From 1970-1986 either the Steelers, Raiders or Dolphins were in the AFC Champ game except once, and 2 of the 3 played each other 6 times. From 1970-1995, either the Cowboys, 49ers, Redskins or Rams played in the NFC Champ game, with 2 of them playing each other 12 times.

While the Big 3 have dominated the AFC the NFC has had 11 different teams represent in the Super Bowl. However, the Eagles have been in the NFC Championship game 5 times.
