I couldn't wait for the future to come if all the workplace uniforms on women looked like that.

I've read that the women's Starfleet uniforms (skirts) were Whitney's idea. She wanted to show off her legs. Bit of trivia: The Rand character was supposed to be third billing behind Shatner and Nimoy. If you see any of the promo material from season one she is always featured with Kirk and Spock. Alcohol issues, sexual harassment, and personality clashes led to her not lasting even 2/3rds of season one. Luckily they brought her back for Star Trek: TMP, Star Treks 3, 4, and 6, as well as an episode of Voyager.
