I was reading about what happened with Mr Rackers. His agent may have gotten too greedy and was not reading our message board. Apparently, he had no idea that the Cards had brought in Feely. So the Cardinals made an offer to Rackers's agent and he counter offered. The deal was supposedly for 2 millionish a year. The Rackers camp waited 2 weeks for another proposal....

Neil Rackers set to visit Jets

The Jets and Cardinals could unofficially trade kickers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Neil Rackers is set to fly to New York Monday for a Tuesday visit. Former Jets kicker Jay Feely signed with Arizona Friday.

In New York, Rackers would have to battle Nick Folk for the starting job. He reportedly had a contract offer from the Cardinals, but wasn't happy with it.

Does the wind blow from the left in the Meadowlands? It could work in his favor =)

Somehow the weather thing completely slipped my mind. Feely's numbers are pretty impressive considering the conditions. I do worry a bit about his numbers at Qwest Field though.

If this is true it is was without a doubt a colossal mistake. He turned down 2 million a year to go compete for a starting job. I guess I shouldn't be surprised the pressure was on and it was his opportunity to come through in the clutch financially. He just did what he has done on the field on more than one occasion he choked it way.

I could see Ryan punching Rackers if he missed a 34 yarder to seal a playoff win.

With former NY K Jay Feeley now with Arizona, Jets have arranged for Cardinals free-agent K Neil Rackers to visit New York on Tuesday.

Kicker swaps?

A shame for him...i don't know how the new stadium is going to be for the wind etc...but i assure you if it is snowing, raining etc where the other stadium was it's gonna be the same at the new one...on top of that kicking in NE or Buffalo ain't no picnic either...that was the first thing i thought of when we got jason....don't go by his stats he is a lifetime 81+ and kicking in that division is a tough challenge.

Racker's agent had a different version of the events:

Roche had a different version of events. He said he did make a counter-proposal to the Cardinals' first offer, but General Manager Rod Graves told him several times that he was reviewing the budget and would get back to him. Roche didn't specify when he made the counter-proposal but it was several days before the league meetings.
Last Wednesday, the Cardinals made a final one-year offer, and Roche said he told Graves that Roche would review the offer with Rackers. On Thursday, Roche left a message for Graves saying he wanted to discuss the offer.
“I was never given an opportunity to accept or reject the offer from the Cardinals because they had already agreed on a contract offer with Jay Feely,” Roche wrote in an e-mail.

Rackers listened to his agent and played chicken. Cards played the game (as is required) for long enough and said see ya. I LOVE it.

Really, what is he thinking?

Lets see, lots of pressure from the NY media, cold weather, wind, lovely forgiving fans and did I mention the cold? :D

Exactly what I was thinking. I hope for the worst for Rackers (football wise).

He didn't make one clutch kick while he was here.

Why did NY let go of Feely? Because he was real good? Can he kick the ball into the endzone on kickoffs? How long a contract and for how much?

"Last season, his second with the Jets, Feely made 30 of 36 field goal attempts, including a 55-yarder, and was a perfect 32-for-32 in point-after attempts.

Still, in a year when every veteran re-signing is being scrutinized by the Jets' front office, those numbers weren't enough to allow Feely his spot on the roster. The Jets asked Feely, 33, to take a pay cut despite his strong season and eventually the parties were at an impasse."

He isn't going to NY
he joined the Texans

Filed to ESPN: Former Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers reached agreement Monday night with the Houston Texans on a two-year contract.

Texans keeping Kris Brown and will have an open competition this summer. Brown vs. Neil Rackers. Best kicker gets job.

I read the version from Rackers agent and felt like "same ole Cards", but then I realized that this said nothing about negotiations before this offer and before the offseason. I had heard (sorry, no link) that they made a very fair offer before Free Agency started, but Rackers wanted to see what was out there. So this 11th hour stuff is nice, but the agent didn't seem to mention the negotiations before this last one that is in disagreement.

he won't say anything about the first proposal. The cards offered 2 millionish a year and they counter offered. The effect of the counter offer, according to contract law, makes the initial offer by the Cardinals null and void which is why he probably never said anything.

I wish him well and I'm glad we moved on, I don't wish him well if he's kicking against us, the usual stuff.

I don't care if we get a kicker that can boom kickoffs or kick 55 yarders in games that don't mean anything, or tackles well for a kicker, I just want a kicker who's money from 45 in when the game is on the line, give me that and I'm happy.
