ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) _ The Oakland Raiders signed kick returner Ronney Jenkins to a free-agent contract Monday.

The 25-year-old Jenkins spent his first three NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers, and became the franchise's all-time kickoff return yardage leader with 3,997.

Jenkins led the Chargers in kickoff returns in each of his three seasons, just missing the 1,000-yard mark for the third time in 2002. He finished with 925 yards in 13 games.

Jenkins was an alternate to the Pro Bowl in 2001 after leading the NFL with a 26.6-yard kickoff return average. That season, he led the NFL and set Chargers team records in kickoff return yards with 1,541, breaking the previous mark he set a year earlier.

jurecki reported right after jenkins was cut that the cards wre going to try and bring ronney jenkins in for a visit..then nothing happened..

he has been a good returner (better than arnold jackson) but he cannot really play a position (he is listed as a running back - but he is too small). They tried to convert him to receiver and I read somewhere that this did not work out..

Raiders collect old fossils from around the league (dana stubblefield is the most recent) and castoffs from the broncos, chiefs and chargers..appears they really wanted rodney harrison.. I would think they would go after seau..but can they afford from a competitive standpoint to have seau and romanowski on the field at the same time?

Ronney Jenkins did not retun punts...just kickoffs. Therefore it is impossible to compare him to Arnold Jackson. Although, I think my sister could have done a better job than Jackson! :D
