Slingshot Global Media announced today that Keanu Reeves is attached to executive produce and star in the television series "Rain," based on the New York Times best-selling book series written by Barry Eisler.

-----------------------

I hope they do it well. Keanu cannot be the Rain in the books - Rain had plastic surgery to hide his Caucasian features and make himself appear more Japanese, but at least Keanu is mixed race like Rain and part of that mixture is Asian.

I have only read books 1-6. There was a 6.5 ebook and then books 7 and 8.

It got a bit confusing when the first 6 were re-released under new names. What happened was - the first 6 were published initially by Penguin Putnam before he got the rights back and self-published them at a later date. He said he never thought they were right for the stories and changed them as soon as he ended the relationship with his publisher.

Here are the books in order of release:

1. A Clean Kill in Tokyo, previously published as Rain Fall
2. A Lonely Resurrection, previously published as Hard Rain
3. Winner Take All, previously published as Rain Storm
4. Redemption Games, previously published as Killing Rain
5. Extremis, previously published as The Last Assassin
6. The Killer Ascendant, previously published as Requiem for an Assassin
6.5 Paris is a Bitch (novella)
7. The Detachment
8. Graveyard of Memories

---------------------------------

There also was a film made - Rain Fall (2009). It starred Japanese actor Kippei Shîna as Rain and Gary Oldman as CIA Station Chief William Holtzer. Haven't seen it yet, but it didn't do well in theaters at all.

I didn't particularly care for the movie. I only read the first three books but liked them quite a bit. Hope this is done well. I'm more of a Keanu fan than most people so I'm looking forward to it quite a bit.

I saw 47 Ronin and I liked it quite a bit. Not because of Keanu, but he didn't take anything away from it.

What is the synopsis of the stories?

From wikipedia, but it really sums up the character:

John Rain is a fictional character created by Barry Eisler. He appears in seven of Eisler's espionage novels as an assassin for hire who specializes in making his victims appear to have died of natural causes. Rain is a Vietnam War veteran who served with the Special Forces; he was later recruited by the CIA, but by the time he appears in the first of the "John Rain" novels, "Rain Fall", he is working "freelance," offering his assassination services to any client willing to follow his three rules: 1) No women or children, 2) No secondary team working separately on an assassination Rain is handling, 3) Principal actors only (i.e., no hits on family members, etc., in order to "send a message").

Rain's years of training in the Special Forces, CIA, and as an assassin for hire manifest themselves in a deep-seated paranoia, an inability to trust anyone, and the drive to eliminate any loose ends (usually through killing) that may leave him vulnerable to payback or revenge.
