Rams Tavon Austin leads the league in average yards per punt return and the Cards Drew Butler has the worst punting yards average in the NfL. I just don't understand why the Cards keep him on the team. Its just a matter of time before he costs us a game and this could be the game. :bang:

He won't make it the entire season. I'd assume that the team has brought in punters on Tuesdays to try out and put on its "ready" list.

Not defending that Bulter is good, but the those stats are misguided and not the only number that matters. Of his 11 punts, 6 are inside the 20. This means we are punting from a close distance and his average will be lowered because of that. Also, only 3 of his 11 punts have been returned, which is an average of one a game. He also has the second highest % of punts to land within the 20, which does not include touchbacks. He has had only one TB of his 11 punts.

Problem is that he has 1 bad punt in every game and that is all it takes for a punter to have a bad day. I think he is a pretty solid punter with a short field and that is the only reason he is still on this team. If he had a huge leg, but was terrible with the short punts he probably wouldn't have made the roster over Zasty.

We have to find something to complain about and pretty much every other player on the roster isn't giving us much to complain about.

If you don't think he's that bad, with the fact that his statistics are at the bottom, his hangtime is absolute crap, AND he takes longer than average to get the punt off, I don't know what to tell you.

I've said it before, but I'll repeat it...the only reason he's decent at dropping balls inside the 20, is because he can hit his "driver" on every shot...where as other punters club down to a 9 iron or wedge.

He would be quite the weapon if we could carry 2 punters....."Alright Drew, we're just outside of FG range, go out there and kick it as far as you can!!"

Come one, the other punters are at least pulling out the 7 iron...:D

As I said in the other thread... since the Rams seem to have our number in terms of an annual injury, let's just use Butler as our "sacrificial lamb" this year

The game is won by inches, but in Butler's case, he seems to lose it in tens of yards on one bad punt each game. It's only a matter of time before someone takes it to the house and swings momentum. I don't recall a punter this bad in ages on any team...

Wouldn't be surprised to see this sometime soon..

You are correct.

But this team kept Andre Roberts on the team for a couple years, and he had at least one bad drop a game.

Butler is not an All-Pro, so......

If every player on the team was perfect some people would still find something to bitch about. Smh.

So just how many shanks are you willing to forgive? This one-per-game thing is wretched, even if the other punts are acceptable.

Guys... the fact that he takes forever to get a punt off is the major problem I have with him, blocked kicks are my concern before even thinking about returns lol

This current front office had Roberts for just one year. His last season with the team was 2013 and that was the year after his best season statistically.

Butler doesn't boom his kicks but makes up for it by pinning it inside the 20. As long as we don't go three and out we should be ok if he punts it somewhere from midfield.
