The saga of the Paul Skenes rookie card is over.
The 1-of-1 autographed Topps Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch card sold at auction for $1.11 million on Thursday, Topps and Fanatics Collect announced on social media early Friday.
The card belonged to an unidentified 11-year-old boy, who had put a Topps Chrome Update box on his holiday wish list and pulled the rare card from a pack on Christmas morning.
The Pittburgh Pirates tried to trade with the boy and his family for the card, offering two season tickets behind home plate at PNC Park for the next 30 years, an exclusive meet-and-greet with Skenes, two autographed Skenes jerseys and even a chance to watch a game with Bergen County native Livvy Dunne, the LSU gymnast who is dating Skenes.
The family eventually opted to put the card up for auction through Fanatics Collect. The auction ran from March 6-20.
Topps says the Skenes card is the sixth the most expensive baseball card ever sold. Here's a look at the highest prices paid for MLB player trading cards:
