I haven't finished it yet, but I'm giving it as good a go as I can with a new baby currently inventing new and bloodcurdling ways to cry. I hope to have it finished in a few days!

I am enjoying reading it though.

I read it out loud to my kids, so it is slower going than if I was just reading it. We are on chapter 6 now. It is a completely different tone so far though from the other books.

I am so tempted to read ahead - but I know if I do then I won't be in as much of a rush to actually read it to the kids....:p

Anyone finish yet? I wouldn't mind a little discussion.

I'm done. I thought it was good, but much more dark and gloomy. My sister cried when the guy died (don't want to ruin it for anyone).

I thought the book really dragged after the first few chapters until about middle of the book.

The last 200 pages were great though.

All in all, I would put it ahead of the first two books, but behind books 3 and 4.

Oh and the character that died was my favorite character in the books after Snape. Out of all the people she could have offed, I didn't see a point to losing that particular character.

Other than to bring more angst to Harry.

And I agree - the first part of the book dragged on.

Well that is part of the problem with the book. As an adult, I don't really want to read 20 chapters of teen angst. She went overboard with it, to the point where Harry comes across as a selfish brat for most of the book.

Snape is my favorite character by far.

He has realistic emotions. He is sort of the anti-hero. He walked on the dark side and then came back. If you read book 5, it is very clear why he so strongly dislikes Potter's father and the rest of his crew.

Yet time and again Snape has set that aside and saved Harry. He still keeps the best interest of the school at heart.
