The Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League have hired Ron Wolfley to complete their coaching staffing needs for the 2006 season, head coach Gene Nudo announced today.

Wolfley, who coached the Rattler fullback/linebackers in 2004, will return to the sidelines this season as the team’s pass rush coach. He will aid Line Coach Ed Flanagan to improve their pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

“This hiring really improves us defensively. Wolf has knowledge and understanding of the game that will translate well with our players,” said General Manager/Head Coach Gene Nudo. “Ron was very instrumental in our run to the ArenaBowl in 2004.”

A ten-year veteran of the NFL, Wolfley began his career in 1985 with the then-St. Louis Cardinals. He played seven seasons for the Cardinals, including three seasons after the club’s move to Phoenix in 1988, before joining the Cleveland Browns and finishing his career with the St. Louis Rams. The fullback earned four-consecutive Pro Bowl berths, thanks to his aggressive special teams play.

In addition to his experience with the Rattlers, Wolfley was the head football coach at Phoenix College. For the past five seasons, Wolfley served as the Rattlers’ radio color analyst. He is presently a color analyst for the Arizona Cardinals.
