Post game Diamondtalk substitute host passed on a rumor (that he claimed had some credible sources):

NY Yankees to send Mondesi to D'backs in exchange for Prinz, Dellucci, and a minor leaguer to be named.

No idea exactly what his sources were... Anyone cite sources on this.... I'm sure people have opinions...

Mondesi plays LF in NY right? I know I have seen him there. I assume he has no issues playing RF. Seems aloty of other players do. :D

Actually he plays RF--is known for having a strong throwing arm. Matsui is getting most of the playing time out there now, so it wouldn't be surprising for the Yankees to look to move Mondesi.

Mondesi plays right field for the Yankees. I like this trade, especially if they can keep Prinz and instead throw in Myers.

Well, yeah ! - howabout throw in Myers and keep the minor-leaguer?

Actually, I think this would be a dumb move. He hasn't hit .275 for years, OBP is consistently low (just what we need), SLG would be about 6th or 7th on the team, fielding is so-so (Oh, that'd be good, too!) and he costs 3 times what Danny costs and many times what Looch costs. This is no upgrade. The only upside is George would laugh himself into a stroke.
:D

Raul Mondesi would be ideal for the Dbacks, since he's a RH hitter who has had a couple 30/30 seasons (he's on pace to do so again this season) and obviously has experience hitting against NL pitchers from his years in LA.... He also is solid defensively, with a cannon of an arm.....

The only drawback though, is that he's earning $13 mil for this season and don't know if the Dbacks would be willing to pick-up someone with such a lucrative contract.... Also, he's in his final year of it and don't know if they would re-sign him beyond that.....

Man, I have mixed emotions on this one. I don't like underachieving ballplayers or sloppy attitudes.

But, Mondesi as a hired-gun for the rest of the season -- if that's the best we can do in a trade -- would make us strong in the post-season.

Gonzo/Hillenbrand/Mondesi or Gonzo/Mondesi/Hillenbrand ... Hillenbrand/Gonzo/Mondesi or Mondesi/Gonzo/Hillenbrand (to break up the righties).

No matter how it stacks, that 3-4-5, along with Johnson/Schilling/Batista/Webb, our bullpen, and the rest of our lineup says World Championship . . . once we reach the post-season!

COUNSELL
KATA/SPIVEY
HILLENBRAND
GONZO
MONDESI
CINTRON
FINLEY
BARAJAS/MOELLER

Hmmm!

Mondesi would also bring some speed on the bases. With 16 SB so far, that is twice the nearest DB.

But his attitude does scare me some....

I'd much rather see Brian GIles, and 8 million is a lot cheaper than 13. Plus he's on contract through 2006. Great attitude and Schill says he's the toughest out in the NL. With Fins cooled off, we have to have another batter besides Gonzo. Look what happened last year agianst the cards in the 1st round of playoffs. Not bad pitching (not great like we're seeing now) but no run support. But I don't know how much the checkbook is in the red. But Finley nor Gonzo will last forever, and Giles at 28 could be a great repalcement.

If the Diamondbacks got Mondesi they would only have to pay 3 million. Toronto is paying 6 million of his contract and he'll be a free agent after this year.

Yeah, I was watching the Red Sox-NYY game- Orosco just got lit. LOL.

But poor BK - I was thinking to myself, "I bet now that he's EAST COAST they won't keep hammering away about his blown WS saves" - but Oh, no! - the entire time he was on the mound, that was ALL the ESPN announcers talked about. btw - I want Manny Ramirez. LOL.

More Jon Miller... He can ONLY talk about what he knows... and he doesn't know much more about BK than the east coasters that continue to harp on the 2001 WS

A "smoke-screen"?

http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/2309.htm

The Yankees would like to see more from Raul Mondesi, but they aren't at the point where they are looking to move him just for the sake of making a deal.
Recently the Marlins and Diamondbacks have shown interest in acquiring the right fielder but have been rebuffed by the Yankees, who believe their best option in right is Mondesi, despite his .258 average, 16 homers, 49 RBIs and an anemic .152 (16-for-105) mark with runners in scoring position. Yankee scout Ron Brand followed the Diamondbacks in early July and picked them up again yesterday.

Mondesi went 0-for-3 with an RBI in last night's 6-4 loss and was lifted for a pinch-hitter for the second straight game.

GM Brian Cashman refused to discuss specific names and teams but was very clear that there is nothing hot heading into Thursday's waiver trade deadline.

"I don't have anything going on with anybody about any player," Cashman said last night.

Just say no to Mondesi. He is hitting .157 with runners in scoring position. We have enough of those kind of guys. Mondesi is no upgrade over what we have.

I read that half of Mondesi's contract is being paid by the Blue Jays. So the Dbacks would only have to pay him about 3 mil. for the rest of the season.

This is why the Dbacks have interest. If they send a big contract or 2 to get him they save money. If the Dbacks make a deal before the deadline it will be to cut a little payroll. No way they add a big contract.

Gammons (the Hedda Hopper of baseball) today said Florida is chatting with George about Mondesi, and never even mentioned us. Said Pads may not get Giles and that Oakland is dying for him, and that for some reason word is KC may still move Beltran (now THAT made my ears perk up. - Would he maybe move to RF?)

Meanwhile, Danny actually was hitting better - though no power, he had 3 hits/11 AB plus 2 walks in 3 games - but he's sitting while Looch is out there struggling terribly. ???

I doubt that whatever Mondesi will bring to the field will make up for the bad attitude he will bring to the dugout.
