All this, " We are the best in the NFC" and, "Crabtree still looks injured." Etc. just needs to stop.
Last I saw, this team is third in their own division, not in the playoffs, and has only beaten SF once in the past 5 seasons.
If a reporter asks you a question simply say you are focused in playing your best and making it to the playoffs...that's it.
Normally I'd totally agree with you on this. I'm all for being quiet and just winning games. But this is the one exception, for several reasons.
First of all, they haven't done much talking all year. BA has had them under wraps. It wasn't until after SF won on Monday that the talking started, which tells me BA took the gag order off. They started talking once it became apparent they weren't making the playoffs, no matter what they did. There's virtually no chance NO loses that game Sunday, not when it still matters to them for seeding.
Secondly, BA said several times early in the year that this team
hoped to win games, but didn't
expect to win. Fitz took exception to that at the time, but it was obviously true. This is their way of showing coach--and everyone in our division--that they expect to win and think they're the best in our division.
Lastly, we clobbered Seattle, it wasn't even as close as it seemed. There's no better way of showing everyone we've turned a corner than to poke the sleeping giant and then step on its neck. It's damn hard to back up bravado against powerhouses like SF and Seattle, but that's what they're trying to do. You can't just limp off on vacation at 11-5 (or 10-6 even) without a peep. What they're trying to do is turn that (mental) hurdle this year instead of next.
If you tell them you're going to pound them and then do it, everyone knows it wasn't luck.
An additional bonus is that they don't want SF resting anyone. No excuses when we beat their ass. This team wants their best with all their starters.
