Just about everyone expected Penn State tight end Tyler Warren to be the first tight end off the board in the 2025 NFL draft. However, the preseason intel had Colston Loveland, the Michigan football junior, as the likely top tight end in the country.
The former knowledge ended up being correct.
Loveland might have had a truncated 2024 season with injuries sustained in Week 3 and Week 13, but former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator and new Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson got his athletic, pass-catching tight end.
Naturally, social media had a lot of thoughts on the selection. Here are some of our favorites.

Excellent pick for the Bears. You just got a WR in a TE body. Loveland is one of those guys you’ll be asking “how is he *always* open”- almost like a Julian Edelman type ability.
Caleb took far too many sacks last year. Loveland is the friendly target that he’ll look for in key… https://t.co/NlS5Y80pbK

Another Wolverine goes in the top 10. Welcome to the NFC North, Colston Loveland. I hope you ball out 15 games a year.

An NFL team taking Colston Loveland over Tyler Warren is the kind of thing that makes me wonder if I know anything about football.

The true TE1 was selected first.

Colston Loveland is staying in the midwest. He just went No. 10 to the Chicago Bears, the highest drafted tight end in the history of Michigan football.

The first tight end is off the board, but not the one everyone expected: The #Bears pick #Michigan TE Colston Loveland at 10th overall.
A complement to Cole Kmet.
