Reality Bites is a 1994 romantic comedy-drama film written by Helen Childress and featuring the directorial debut of Ben Stiller. It stars Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke and Stiller, with major supporting roles played by Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn. The film was shot on location in Austin[citation needed] and Houston, Texas, in 42 days. The plot is centered on Lelaina, an aspiring videographer working on a documentary called Reality Bites about the disenfranchised lives of her friends and roommates, and to a certain degree, about Lelaina herself. Their challenges, both documented and not, exemplify some of the career and lifestyle choices faced by Generation X. The film was well-received critically and commercially and is seen as a cultural touchstone for Gen X-ers.

I thought this was a very forgettable movie filled with unlikable characters. It was targeted at my age group, but perhaps I should have watched it when I was 20.

Ben Stiller and Steve Zahn were ok, but the other characters bored me.

NBC is developing a half-hour comedy based on Stiller’s Gen X classic Reality Bites, nearly two decades after the film hit theaters. Stiller is on board to executive produce through his shingle Red Hour Films, while Helen Childress, who wrote the original movie, will pen the pilot script. Hit the jump for more details on the project.

I didn't think it was all that great of a movie to be honest. OK but nothing special, can't imagine it being a successful TV series.
